When the seed is underneath the ground. Some will criticize, doubt and others will mock you. Not until it starts to germinate, the unseen Hope becomes reality.

We keep hoping.... It is possible....

Job interviews can humble you fast 😂😭 …

One of my mentees got shocked after i shared a job advert that was asking for 5 years experience yet he graduated last year with zero experience. He started complaining how employers are not considerate.

That reminded me of one job I applied for after graduation. Around 5 months after graduation.

The advert needed.
-Masters in Agronomy and any related courses
-16 years experience.
-Can speak English and write well in Swahili.
-Not allergic to any food
-Married with 2 kids and above.

Up to today I still don’t know what marriage and children had to do with managing a farm 😂😂

The job was for managing an export farm dealing with French beans and baby corn.

Being a sharp boy, I applied anyway. Surprisingly I got shortlisted for the interview.

I arrived there full of confidence. In the waiting bay were older men coming for the same interview. By the look of things, I was their son’s age. Maybe younger 😂

These men matched the job description 100%.

I entered the boardroom confidently. The panel looked at my papers, then looked at me. My friend, that is when I knew these people wanted me to fail from the advert itself 😂

One old man on the panel asked me.
“Kijana, what was today’s headline in the Standard newspaper?” 🥹🥹

On a serious note, how was I supposed to pass that interview?

That day I woke up at 4am. I prayed to God, prepared well, and made sure I arrived early.

Now tell me, at what point was I supposed to sit down and read newspapers? 😂😂

I left there defeated.

Maybe that interview trauma is why I chose farming. Even today I still don’t qualify for that job 😂😂

I can’t wait for the day I conduct interviews on my own farm. I promise nobody will be asked newspaper headlines 😭😂
