Nearly 100 Million. That’s the number of girls around the world who are not enrolled in secondary school.

One of the leading barriers to girls completing school is the lack of access to menstrual hygiene management when they hit puberty. It takes everyone including boys and entire communities, governments, businesses, institutions and even you, to break the stigma and ensure every single girl can manage her period properly and access an education.

In the poorest countries, girls currently lack education about periods, as well as menstrual health products and facilities like proper toilets and tampons. Without these tools to manage their periods, girls often feel uncomfortable and even face health implications, which ultimately force them to drop out or not participate in school.

In a year of elections, another country has just voted in a new leader.

Emmanuel Macron was sworn in as the new President of France on May 14, and there’s no better time than the present to welcome him to the role and tell him about what matters to us: Education.

We want the President to use his term to build on and strengthen France’s support for education financing, particularly by increasing France's commitment to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

Ahead of the G7 on May 26 and the upcoming G20, France’s leadership on education is crucial. They need to show the world’s most powerful and prosperous countries why education matters for over 260 million kids who are currently missing out or not finishing school.

The world has cut the number of children without an education in half. This progress must extend to the over 50 million still left out. Educated and healthy children will lead their communities out of poverty and build the thriving nations of tomorrow.

Today is World Teacher Day.

There are 130 million children in school who are not learning even the basics. On this World Teacher Day, we can recognize the teachers who have made a difference in our lives as a way of encouraging governments to invest more in teachers.

Globally, there is a lack of trained teachers. In fact, less than three-quarters of teachers are trained to national standards in as many as one in three countries.

The current lack of teacher training means even if children enroll in school, they are not getting proper education. This is why we need more funding available to train and employ more teachers who can educate the next generation.

Let’s use our collective voice and recognize the teachers who have made a difference in our lives. We need to encourage governments and others to invest more in training teachers to help those who are currently missing out.
