Caritas Livingstone is a Social Wing of Catholic Church that was estahblised in 1970 by Diocese of Livingstone as Development Desk (now Caritas) in response to development neeeds of the less privilage in the Society.

Caritas operates under the ZCCB (Zambia Catholic Confrence of Bishops) guided by Caritas National (Zambia) with the general framework mandate and engagement that is anchored in the Catholic Commission of Justice and Peace (CCJP) and Catholic Commission for Integral Development (CCD). This means that Caritas Livingstone:


  • Engage in programs of Concientization (generating ideas, developing, strengthening and challenge the perceptions) in order to awaken God’s people to a deeper understanding of the call as Christians with regard to Social Justice.

  • Form a critical conscience (spirituality - Church Social Teaching formation) that empowers people to challenge and act overcome injustice situations in national governance
