*Official Launch of Community Program To Empower Youths to Reduce Human-Wildlife Conflict*
*Livingstone, Southern Province — 15 July 2026*
Communities living along the wildlife corridor have a new reason for hope. On 15 July 2026, the official opening of a new community empowerment program was held, marking the launch of its first group of young participants.
The program is designed to equip local youth with practical skills that create long-term, sustainable livelihoods. Instead of relying on short-term measures like chasing elephants away from farms and villages, the initiative focuses on building careers and businesses that benefit both people and wildlife.
Speaking at the launch, organizers said the goal is simple but powerful: *reduce human-wildlife conflict by changing the relationship between communities and wildlife*.
“_We want communities to see wildlife not just as a threat to crops, but as an opportunity for a better future,_” a program representative noted.
*Key aims of the program:*
- *Skill-building for youth* - Training in areas that support sustainable income, from tourism and guiding to crafts, conservation, and hospitality
- *Reducing human-wildlife conflict* - Giving communities tools and alternatives that minimize crop raiding and dangerous encounters
- *Growing tourism benefits* - Helping local people directly benefit from tourism in the long run, so conservation makes economic sense
The first cohort of young people was officially welcomed during the launch event. They will be the pioneers of a model the organizers hope to expand to more communities along the corridor.
By investing in people, the program aims to create a future where communities and wildlife can thrive side by side — with fewer conflicts and more shared benefits from Zambia’s rich natural heritage.
We are also requesting for more operators/partners to join us to offer the students internships and experience opportunities that can help them in near future.
