Alice is a bright, intelligent, and creative young girl in Grade 11. She dreams of becoming a lawyer one day , a profession she believes will allow her to speak up for others and bring justice to those in need. Alongside her academic aspirations, she has a passion for cosmetology and hopes to one day master the art of beauty and self-expression. In her free time, Alice enjoys drawing, crafting, singing, and playing with children, her talents shining through in everything she does.

Her story, however, is one of both resilience and courage in the face of hardship.

After the death of their father, Alice and her elder brother were taken in by their loving aunt, Judith. Determined to give them a better life, Judith worked tirelessly as an assistant accountant at a private school in Livingstone. She provided everything they needed, food, shelter, and education, ensuring the children never felt the weight of their loss.

But in April 2019, tragedy struck again when the school where Judith worked was liquidated. Without any benefits or severance, she suddenly lost her only source of income. The family’s stability crumbled overnight. Two other children Judith had been supporting had to drop out of college, and Alice was transferred from a private school to a government school.

Despite the setback, Judith refused to give up. With courage and faith, she began a small business selling doormats to provide at least one meal a day for her family. Her strength and perseverance have kept the household going, even when times were toughest.

Alice’s elder brother, equally determined, began studying for his accounting certification (ZICA) through self-study. He takes on small piecework jobs to raise money for his exams, a powerful example of responsibility and hope for the family’s future.

Through all these challenges, Alice has remained focused, driven, and full of gratitude. Her dreams remain alive because of the support she now receives through Wings of Hope, which is helping her stay in school and move closer to her goals.

“I am so thankful for the support from Wings of Hope. It is helping me stay focused and believe that my dreams can come true,” Alice shares with a bright smile.

At Wings of Hope, we are deeply honored to walk alongside Alice and her family on their journey toward a better future. With continued support, Alice can achieve her dream of becoming a lawyer and one day be the voice of hope for others, just as Wings of Hope has been for her.

Together, we can keep Alice’s dream alive.

This day reminds us of the courage of those who fought for our freedom and the responsibility we all share to preserve the peace, dignity, and hope they envisioned.
At Wings of Hope, we believe that true independence is not just the absence of oppression, it is the presence of opportunity, compassion, and empowerment for every Zambian.

May our nation continue to soar higher on the wings of peace, love, and progress.
Together, let’s keep building a Zambia where every dream can take flight.

Happy 61st Independence Day!

Allan, a 61-year-old grandfather, is the devoted guardian of 12-year-old Lucy, one of the bright students under our Wings of Hope sponsorship program. Lucy’s story is one of quiet strength and perseverance, rooted in the love and sacrifices of her grandfather.

Lucy’s mother, Allan’s daughter, works in Kafue as a maid, earning just enough to support herself but not enough to care for her child. In 2017, Lucy’s parents divorced when she was only four years old, forcing her mother to relocate from Lusaka to Livingstone in search of better opportunities. Together, they moved in with Allan, who welcomed them with open arms.

For a time, Lucy’s father continued to support her education, but tragedy struck in 2021 when he passed away. Since then, Allan has taken full responsibility for Lucy’s care, determined to give her the stability and love she deserves.

Allan’s own life story is one of endurance and faith. Born and raised in Livingstone, he once aspired to serve as a police officer and even underwent training in 1990. However, he was unable to graduate because he exceeded the required age limit , a disappointment that could have crushed his spirit, but he chose to press on.

He went on to build a career as a stock clerk in the cotton industry, working diligently for 16 years in Mumbwa until the company closed down. Over the years, Allan took on several jobs across Zambia ; in Chipata and Chisamba ; before returning to Livingstone in 2017 when work opportunities became scarce.

Today, Allan relies on his welding skills to provide for his household. Though his small business brings in little income, he continues to persevere, doing his best to ensure Lucy’s needs are met. Despite the financial challenges, Lucy remains a beacon of hope ; a disciplined, hardworking student who continues to achieve excellent academic results.

On days when Allan cannot afford transport money, Lucy walks over 6 kilometers to school and back. Yet, her determination never wavers. Her bright smile and unwavering focus remind us all that even in the face of hardship, faith and perseverance can light the way forward.

At Wings of Hope, we are proud to walk alongside Allan and Lucy on this journey ; supporting them as they hold onto faith and continue to rise above life’s challenges.

Bible Scripture for Encouragement
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
— Isaiah 41:10

This scripture beautifully reminds Allan and Lucy that they are not alone ,that God’s strength, love, and grace continue to sustain them through every challenge they face.

At just 12 years old, Niza has already faced challenges that would make many give up, but not her. A bright and determined Grade 8 student, Niza holds tightly to her dream of becoming a doctor. Her love for school burns deeply, even though her journey has been anything but easy.

Niza’s primary school years were marked by constant struggle. Her family couldn’t afford to pay her school fees, and many times she stayed home for months at a time. She had no proper shoes, no school bag, and no books. The challenges only grew more intense as she reached Grade 7, a critical exam year. For the final two months before her exams, she couldn’t attend school at all.

But even in the face of these obstacles, Niza never gave up. With help from her cousin and a friend who shared their books, she studied from home. Her determination paid off, she passed her Grade 7 exams with outstanding results.

Niza is the first and only child of her mother, who became pregnant at just 16 while in Grade 9. Forced to leave school to raise her daughter, she later turned to her older sister, Ireen, for help. Ireen took Niza in so her mother could return to school. Since then, Ireen has raised Niza as her own.

Ireen herself never had it easy. Born and raised in Livingstone, she only reached Grade 8 before financial hardship forced her to drop out. She married young and had two children, but their lives took another difficult turn when her husband passed away. Since then, Ireen has been the sole provider for her children and Niza.

To survive, Ireen runs a small business from home, selling drinks, water, and traditional beverages. With the little she earns, she pays rent and provides just enough food for the family. Still, when Niza qualified for secondary school, Ireen found a way to buy her uniforms, shoes, books, and a school bag, choosing sacrifice over surrender.

Despite everything, Niza never lost hope. She never considered dropping out of school. Instead, she held onto her faith, praying that one day her story would change. And that hope led her to Wings of Hope.

One of her teachers, moved by Niza’s brilliance and quiet struggle, referred her for support. We saw what her teacher saw, a girl with immense potential and an unbreakable spirit. A girl who deserves a chance.

Thanks to the support from Wings of Hope, Niza now continues her education with renewed strength and peace of mind. Her dream of becoming a doctor is no longer distant, it is unfolding, one school day at a time.

Niza and her aunt Ireen are deeply grateful for the help they have received. But Niza’s story is not unique. There are many more girls just like her, bright, determined, and full of promise, waiting for someone to believe in them.

Will you be that someone? Will you help us rewrite more stories like Niza’s?

Behind every child’s smile is often a story of silent struggle and unspoken resilience. Catherine is one such child, a bright, intelligent girl with dreams bigger than the challenges she has faced.

Catherine’s journey begins with her grandmother, also named Catherine, who was born and raised in Livingstone. She dropped out of school in Grade 8 and pursued a tailoring course in hopes of building a better life. In 1994, at just 22 years old, she moved to a farm in Kalomo where she married and had two children. Her husband worked as a construction worker with Zambia Railways, but their marriage ended after just three years. A second marriage followed, but it too failed when her new husband refused to accept her children.

With two young children and nowhere to turn, Catherine’s grandmother returned to Livingstone, determined to start over. She worked as a maid for four years, and later as a tailor for a security company for eight years. Though her income was small, she pressed on for the sake of her children.

Just when life seemed to stabilize, tragedy struck. Her son, Catherine’s father, was in Grade 11 when he impregnated his girlfriend, both of them still in school. One morning, on his usual walk to school, he was hit by a car and died instantly. The devastating loss shattered the family. Just four months later, baby Catherine was born.

In a selfless act of love, her grandmother took baby Catherine in, allowing her young mother to return to school. Sadly, in January 2023, Catherine’s mother also passed away after a short illness, leaving her grandmother as the sole guardian.

Despite her grief and financial hardships, Catherine’s grandmother continues to care for Catherine and her younger cousin by selling maize and second-hand clothes. Life is tough, but hope lives on.

Catherine, now a promising student, heard about Wings of Hope through her school. With determination in her heart, she applied for educational sponsorship, praying to be selected. Her hard work and excellent performance caught our attention, and she was chosen as one of our scholarship recipients.

“Wings of Hope has lifted a heavy burden off our shoulders,” her grandmother says with gratitude. “Now I can focus on feeding them, knowing Catherine’s future is secure.”

Catherine is now more determined than ever. She has vowed to remain focused on her education and work hard to honor the opportunity she’s been given.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela

At Wings of Hope, we believe that every child deserves a chance, no matter where they come from or what they’ve lost. But we cannot do it alone.

There are still many more Catherines out there, waiting for someone to believe in them. With your support, we can give them the hope, dignity, and education they deserve. Will you be part of their story?

Grant is a vibrant and intelligent 17-year-old boy from Livingstone. He lives with his parents and three siblings in a modest home. His family's story in Livingstone began with his father, Isaac, who was born and raised in the city. Isaac attended school up to Grade 9 but was forced to drop out due to financial challenges. To make ends meet, he began working in the local craft industry.

During his early years in Livingstone, Isaac got married and had two children. However, the burden of unemployment strained the marriage, leading to a divorce. In 2008, Isaac moved to Lusaka in search of better opportunities. There, he found work as a gardener and security guard. Eventually, he remarried and had two more children, one of whom lives with a disability.

Despite his efforts, life in Lusaka proved difficult, jobs were hard to come by, and the cost of living was high. In 2022, Isaac made the tough decision to move his family back to Livingstone, hoping for a fresh start. Although he still struggled to find formal employment, he and his wife began taking on piecework (general labor), which allowed them to cover rent. Their home lacks basic amenities like electricity and water, but through perseverance and hard work, they manage to put food on the table and sustain themselves.

Grant, currently in Grade 10, is an outstanding student. He is respectful, focused, and full of potential. His dream is to become a veterinary doctor. Outside the classroom, Grant enjoys playing football, reading, touring, and playing chess. He is also a dedicated youth leader at his church, known for his humility and discipline.

Despite the challenges his family faces, Grant remains committed to his studies and determined to achieve a better future, not only for himself but for his family as well.

Behind every determined child is a mother doing her best with what little she has. This is the story of Aphonsina, a mother of five, and her son Mike a young boy with a big dream and an even bigger heart.

Aphonsina was born and raised in a rural village, where she completed her primary education up to Grade 7. Determined to build a better life, she moved to Livingstone to continue her studies. Sadly, her journey was cut short in Grade 9 due to poor academic performance and limited support. Feeling discouraged, she stepped away from school.

During that time of uncertainty, Aphonsina became pregnant with her first child, Mike, and began living with her boyfriend. Three years later, they had a second child together. But their home was far from stable. After five years, in 2015, she made the difficult decision to leave the relationship due to her partner’s alcohol abuse and destructive lifestyle.

In 2017, Aphonsina remarried a man who works as a charcoal burner cutting and burning trees to produce charcoal, which he sells to support the family. With no job of her own, Aphonsina stays home to care for the children, relying solely on her husband’s modest income. They do their best to survive, but feeding and educating five children on a charcoal income is an overwhelming challenge.

When Mike’s potential began to shine through, Aphonsina knew she had to seek help. That’s when she came to Wings of Hope.

Mike is a gentle, respectful, and intelligent young boy. Despite the instability at home, he remains one of the top-performing students in his grade. He is disciplined, punctual, and driven. His dream? To become a medical doctor and use his knowledge to serve his community and help save lives.

At Wings of Hope, we believe that children like Mike shouldn't be held back by circumstances they didn’t choose. His story reminds us why we do what we do because no child should carry the weight of the world alone.

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Mike’s future is bright—but he needs a village to help him get there. Wings of Hope is proud to be part of that village, and with your support, we can ensure that Mike’s dreams of becoming a doctor don’t remain just dreams, but become a reality.

Will you help us carry the weight and build a better future for children like Mike?

Luyando, a bright and determined Grade 10 student from Livingstone, is the second of three children in her family. From a young age, she has faced significant challenges growing up in a household with limited financial resources. Yet, despite the hardships, Luyando has made it her personal mission to change her story to work hard, make her parents proud, and build a better future.

Her journey took a painful turn after she passed her Grade 9 exams with exceptional results. Just as her family should have been celebrating her achievement, tragedy struck. Her older brother and his friends were arrested for stealing and selling a mobile phone, an incident that caught the family completely off guard. It was a shocking and traumatizing experience for Luyando, and it turned into a crisis for the entire family.

The families of all the boys involved were asked to pay a fee for their release. Luyando’s parents, both unemployed and struggling financially, were under intense pressure to raise the required money. At the same time, her mother had just given birth, adding to the strain and emotional toll.

While all this was happening, Luyando was preparing to start Grade 10, a transition that required school fees, uniforms, books, and other supplies. Unfortunately, with the family's attention and resources directed toward securing her brother’s release, they had nothing left to support Luyando’s education. They sold their few valuables just to meet the immediate need, leaving them helpless when it came time for her to report to school.

Still full of hope and determination, Luyando and her family turned to Wings of Hope for assistance. And by God’s grace, we were able to step in. Moved by her exceptional results and unwavering resolve, we ensured she was enrolled and given everything she needed to continue her education.

Today, Luyando is one of the top students in her class. She is focused, hardworking, and has set her eyes on scoring 6 points in her final exams. She studies diligently and remains committed to achieving her dreams, not just for herself, but for her family and her community.

"Children like Luyando deserve every opportunity to succeed."

At Wings of Hope, our mission is to make sure no child is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control. With the continued support of her parents, her school, and people like you, we are confident that Luyando will achieve all that she sets out to do.

She has proven that she deserves the very best and together, we will help her get there.
