Sililo Foundation: Voice of Persons with Disabilities Celebrates International Women's Day 2026
Lusaka, Zambia - On International Women's Day 2026, Sililo Foundation: Voice of Persons with Disabilities joins the global community to advocate for the rights and empowerment of women and girls with disabilities in Zambia.
This year's theme, "Rights. Justice. Action: for all Women and Girls," resonates deeply with our mission. Women and girls with disabilities in Zambia face double discrimination, often excluded from education, employment, and healthcare.
Despite these challenges, women and girls with disabilities in Zambia have achieved remarkable successes. Through different government and nongovernment initiatives, we have seen increased advocacy for disability rights and improved access to services. Women with disabilities are becoming entrepreneurs, leaders, and change-makers in their communities.
"We must ensure inclusive policies and programs that address the unique needs of women and girls with disabilities," says Ms. Sandra, Director of Education and Operations of Sililo Foundation. "Their voices must be heard, and their rights protected."
Key issues affecting women and girls with disabilities in Zambia include:
- Limited access to education and economic opportunities
- Increased risk of gender-based violence
- Inadequate healthcare services
The government and organisations like UNICEF Zambia, Disability Rights Watch Zambia, and SightSavers Zambia have made commendable efforts to promote disability inclusion. Sililo Foundation appreciates these partnerships and calls for continued collaboration to:
- Implement inclusive policies and programs
- Provide accessible infrastructure and services
- Promote awareness and challenge stereotypes
"Women and girls with disabilities are not victims; they are agents of change," says Director of Education and Operations of Sililo Foundation. "Let us work together to create a more inclusive Zambia."
