BAYER IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PROJECT CONCERN ZAMBIA TO BUILD A MINI HOSPITAL IN RURAL KABWE

Kabwe, Zambia – In a significant move to improve access to primary healthcare (PHC) and achieve universal health access for underserved communities in Central Province, Bayer Sub Saharan Africa and Project Concern Zambia (PCZ) have entered into a strategic partnership and have broken ground on the construction of a new Out-Patient Department at a community health center located near the Bayer seed plant, Itaba, in Kabwe.

In line with the PCZ sustainability strategy, anchored in innovative public and private sector partnerships as a pathway to the sustained delivery of quality health and social protection services to all, the investment from Bayer will support the Kabwe District Health Office (DHO) to implement one of its main objectives of increasing health coverage in the district. In line with its global mission— “to achieve Health for All, Hunger for None”—that also aligns to the Ministry of Health Zambia (MOH) mission and the PCZ Sustainability Strategy, Bayer has provided a one-off steppingstone donation of €100,000 towards the construction of the outpatient department that will also house a maternal and child health clinic.

The PHC center will be owned, led and driven by the Kabwe DHO and Munga Community members. PCZ will support the design and deployment of a PHC program based on its proven PHC model that empowers local authorities and communities to timely identify healthcare needs in their communities, and through a collective multisectoral effort, strengthen PHC systems to sustainably address health issues and critical contextual socioeconomic issues that are determinants of health.

Project Concern Zambia CEO Yvonne Mulenga says that the project exemplifies the power of partnerships in creating sustainable community impact.

“This is a model of development we believe in where government, private sector and civil society come together to deliver solutions at the heart of the communities we serve, we are proud to work alongside Bayer and the ministry of health to bring this facility to life” Ms. Mulenga said.

PCZ will effectively network Kabwe DHO and Munga Community leadership with other Government strategic district offices and the private sector to ensure Munga has a sustainably strengthened PHC system that is responsive to the community health needs and provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to over 10,000 community members in Munga Ward, including Bayer employees and their dependents.
The piece of land on which the Mini hospital would be built was donated by the Munzele family.

We are thrilled to announce that Project Concern Zambia has become an official nonprofit partner of GlobalGiving, the first and largest worldwide fundraising community for nonprofits, donors, and companies. This means you can support our work easily and safely from anywhere in the world.

This new partnership will open new doors and help us to sustain the delivery of life-saving, community case management services for the over 100,000 vulnerable children, adolescents, and caregivers we serve, including HIV-positive children, adolescents and infants exposed to HIV, and children/adolescents with life-threatening co-morbidities such as HIV/Tuberculosis and HIV/Malnutrition.

We are committed to supporting the Government of the Republic of Zambia to sustain HIV epidemic control and this partnership with GlobalGiving validates our commitment! We can’t wait for this partnership to shine a spotlight on the beneficiaries we love serving and how each support we get trickles down to them in a life-changing way.

Commemorating: 50 Years of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation(EPI) in Zambia

Project Concern Zambia in partnership with the Churches Health Association of Zambia - CHAZ and with funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is supporting the Full Portfolio Planning (FPP) immunization project which aims to boost vaccination coverage among children and vulnerable groups.

As part of African Vaccination Week in collaboration with Ministry of Health Zambia in Shibuyunji District, we had with a march past, megaphone community sensitization as well as a mobile vaccination booth to reach out to caregivers and their children.

It's time to protect our communities, our families, and our future!
From 14 to 20 May 2025, Zambia joins the rest of Africa in celebrating African Vaccination Week, a time to raise awareness, increase access, and ensure everyone receives life-saving vaccines.

This year’s campaign theme (“Immunization for all is humanly possible”) is a reminder that no one should be left behind when it comes to protection against vaccine-preventable diseases. Go to your nearest health facility to check your vaccination status. Vaccines are safe, free, and available for all!
