KDP was established in 2012 with the aim of fighting poverty by focusing on rural poor women, youths and children through programs that sustainably bring long lasting changes in the lives of the most deprived rural communities in Eastern Province. The Anglican Diocese of Eastern Zambia (ADEZ) realized the need for holistic human transformation through a social arm and established Kachere Developm

ent Programme (KDP). What characterizes KDP's functioning are its efforts to
(a) enlist the involvement of the locals when initiating activities at the grassroots level and
(b) mobilizing women, youths and children for bringing peace, tolerance and development in society using the Self Help Group Approach (SHGA). The type of activities undertaken range from service delivery and effective financial management system, with the focus remaining on the rural poor communities. KDP has been carrying out a range of interventions in the areas of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, Environment and Natural Resource Management, Health and Education.

“Nourishing Our Communities and Improving Livelihoods Through Seed Diversity.”

The event was officiated by the Chipata District Commissioner, who was represented by the District Administrative Officer, Mr. Kapembwa. The festival served as a platform to promote the preservation and utilization of traditional seeds and indigenous food systems, which are vital for food security, nutrition, and sustainable livelihoods.

A diverse range of stakeholders participated, showcasing various traditional seed varieties and indigenous foods. Notable exhibitors included:
• Share Africa Zambia (SAZ)
• Caritas Chipata
• Peniel Seed
• Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO)
• Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI)
• Farmer Outgrower Foundation (FOF)

Additionally, staff from the Anglican Diocese of Eastern Zambia (ADEZ) Synod Office were present to support the event.
