Strong communities build successful young entrepreneurs ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš€

On July 10th, 2026, The Healing Balm Foundation hosted its first family and community engagement session under the Going Beyond project, implemented in partnership with Digital Opportunity Trust and the Mastercard Foundation. The session took place at Liseli Initiative in Mulala, one of the projectโ€™s Host Organizations.

The session brought together 75 participants, including parents, community members, Digital Business Program Facilitators, and young entrepreneurs who shared inspiring testimonies about the positive impact of the project on their journeys.

Families and community members learned about the importance of creating an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs and committed to supporting youth by encouraging their participation in Digital Business classes and providing the support needed for them to succeed.

Together, we are building stronger community support systems that empower young people to learn, grow, and achieve their goals.

In June 2025, The Healing Balm Foundation successfully documented progressive cultural norms and traditional idioms in Mukuni and Musokotwane Chiefdoms of Kazungula District, highlighting how indigenous knowledge continues to promote transparency, integrity, accountability, and inclusion.

The study revealed that traditional idioms remain powerful tools for guiding ethical leadership, encouraging honesty, strengthening community participation, and holding leaders accountable. Used in traditional courts, community meetings, and everyday life, these expressions continue to reinforce values that support good governance and responsible citizenship.

By preserving and promoting these cultural teachings, the initiative demonstrates that traditional knowledge remains relevant in addressing today's governance challenges while fostering stronger, more accountable communities.

This activity was implemented with financial support from the Federal Republic of GIZ,German International Cooperation and co-funded by the European Union under the Enabling Access to Justice, Civil Society Participation and Transparency Programme.

Happy Heroesโ€™ Day,

Today, we honor the brave men and women whose courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment laid the foundation for the Zambia we proudly call home. Their legacy reminds us that true heroism is found in selfless service, resilience, and standing up for the wellbeing of others.

At The Healing Balm Foundation, we celebrate not only our national heroes but also the everyday heroes within our communities who continue to create positive change and champion inclusion, dignity, and opportunity for all.

As we commemorate Heroesโ€™ Day, may we all be inspired to serve with compassion, lead with integrity, and work together to build a more just, inclusive, and prosperous Zambia.

Recap: Community Validates Asset Mapping in Kash*tu Settlement

As part of the Citizen +D Project, The Healing Balm Foundation continued supporting community-led planning in Kash*tu Settlement through an Asset Mapping Verification Meeting and Transit Walk. The activity brought together residents, the Livingstone City Council, and local leadership to review and verify information collected during the asset mapping exercise.

The verification process allowed community members to confirm the accuracy of mapped assets, identify gaps, and ensure that local knowledge was fully reflected in the data. A transit walk through the settlement further strengthened the exercise by enabling participants to validate key findings on the ground and discuss opportunities for future development.

The activity reinforced the importance of participatory planning, with communities playing an active role in shaping the Local Area Plan alongside local authorities. It also highlighted the value of collaboration in building more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable settlements.

The Citizen +D Project is being implemented by The Healing Balm Foundation in partnership with Livingstone City Council, with financial support from the Federal Republic of GIZ,German International Cooperation.

On 24th June 2026, The Healing Balm Foundation โ€“ ๐†๐ฐ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž ๐๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ก visited Chibuwe Community School to engage learners in Grades 5 to 7 on critical issues that shape their education, health, and future aspirations. The awareness session focused on Career Guidance, Early Marriages and Teenage Pregnancy, and Menstrual Health, equipping learners with practical knowledge to help them make informed decisions as they prepare for the transition to secondary education.

Recognising that Chibuwe Community School offers education up to Grade 7, the Foundation placed special emphasis on career guidance to help learners understand the importance of continuing their education. Participants learned how successfully completing Grade 7 and progressing to Grade 8 opens opportunities for secondary education, TEVETA skills training, and future careers. Learners were encouraged to identify their strengths, interests, and favourite subjects as a foundation for choosing future career paths while discussing ways to overcome peer pressure and the misconception that school is not important. The key message throughout the session was clear: Stay in school now, decide your future later.

The Foundation also facilitated an open and interactive discussion on early marriages and teenage pregnancy. Learners were reminded that marriage before the age of 18 is illegal in Zambia and that teenage pregnancy has lasting consequences for both girls and boys, affecting health, education, and future opportunities. Practical guidance was shared on protecting themselves by staying in school, seeking advice from trusted adults, choosing friends wisely, and setting personal goals. Boys were encouraged to respect and support girls rather than pressure them into unhealthy relationships, while girls were informed about Zambia's school re-entry policy, which allows young mothers to continue their education after childbirth. The session reinforced the message that every child's future is worth waiting for.

To promote dignity and confidence among learners, the Foundation also conducted a menstrual health education session for both girls and boys. Common myths surrounding menstruation were addressed while learners received accurate information on menstrual hygiene and the importance of creating a supportive school environment. Sanitary pads were distributed to girls, helping reduce absenteeism, improving confidence, and ensuring that menstruation does not become a barrier to education.

Community schools such as Chibuwe often experience high dropout rates after Grade 7 due to limited access to information, guidance, and essential resources. Through this intervention, learners received the knowledge, encouragement, and practical support needed to remain in school, protect their wellbeing, and confidently pursue their dreams.

This activity was made possible through the generous financial support of the Zambian Governance Foundation.
