*About Bipolar Disorder:*
Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that causes strong shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels. A person may experience periods of high energy and mood, called mania, and periods of low mood and energy, called depression. With the right support, treatment, and understanding, people living with bipolar disorder can manage it and lead full, healthy lives.

*Why Youth Engagement in Sexual Reproductive Health Matters:*
Adolescents face unique challenges around s*xual and reproductive health. When youth are engaged, they:
- *Get accurate information*: Helps prevent STIs, HIV, and unintended pregnancies.
- *Make informed choices*: Knowledge builds confidence to make decisions that protect your health and future.

Comprehensive abortion care

Comprehensive abortion care in Zambia is governed by the Termination of Pregnancy (TOP) Act of 1972, which allows abortion under specific circumstances, including threats to the mother's life or health, fetal abnormalities, and socioeconomic factors. The law requires approval from three medical professionals, including one specialist, and must be performed in a registered hospital or clinic ¹ ².

*Key Aspects of Abortion Care in Zambia:*

- *Access to Services*: Abortion services are available in public and private facilities, with some NGOs like MSI Zambia providing comprehensive abortion care.
- *Gestational Limit*: Abortions are allowed up to 28 weeks, or fetal viability.
- *Provider Training*: Healthcare providers, including nurses and midwives, are trained to provide abortion services.
- *Post-Abortion Care*: Facilities offer post-abortion care, including counseling and medical treatment.
- *Challenges*: Despite liberal laws, access to safe abortion is limited due to stigma, lack of awareness, and restrictive requirements.

*Efforts to Improve Abortion Care:*

- The Ministry of Health has implemented guidelines and training programs to enhance provider capacity.
- NGOs like Ipas and MSI Zambia are working to scale up abortion services and reduce unsafe abortions.
- Medical abortion, using mifepristone and misoprostol, is increasingly available ³ ⁴ ⁵.
