Project Title: Empowering Youth Through Recreation and Mentorship~Mulambwa compound (Mongu )
Introduction
Our community is faced with alarming rates of youth involvement in violent activities, early marriages, pregnancies, and disease. This project aims to establish a recreation center at our local church (Mulambwa UCZ located at center of mulambwa compound) providing a safe space for children aged 12-21 to engage in sports and activities, while also receiving guidance and mentorship.
Problem Statement
The youth in our community are vulnerable to:
- Violence and gang involvement
- Early marriages and pregnancies
- Disease and poor health
- Dropping out of school
The Current Situation
Our community is plagued by gang violence, with youth as young as 12 being recruited into gangs. Residents are afraid to leave their homes after 6 PM, fearing attacks and violence. This has led to:
- Increased crime rates
- Decreased economic activity
- Reduced access to education and healthcare
- A pervasive sense of fear and insecurity
Objectives
1. Establish a recreation center at our local church, offering sports and activities.
2. Provide a safe space for youth to socialize and receive mentorship.
3. Empower youth with life skills, education, and guidance.
4. Reduce involvement in violent activities, early marriages, and disease.
Methodology
1. Establish partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders.
2. Purchase recreation equipment, including:
- Netballs k5000
- Footballs k5000
- Volleyballs (Including nets)K2000
- Chess sets:k6000
- Pool table:k30,000
3. Recruit trained mentors and coaches.
4. Develop a program schedule, including sports, mentorship sessions, and life skills training.
Mentorship Courses
Our mentorship program will focus on:
- Life skills training (e.g., goal-setting, decision-making)
- Education and career guidance
- Health and wellness awareness
- Conflict resolution and peacebuilding
- Character development and values-based leadership
Competitions and Events
To keep the youth engaged and motivated, we will organize regular competitions and events, including:
- Pool table tournaments with prizes
- Chess and checkers competitions with prizes
- Netball, football, and volleyball tournaments
- Other recreational activities and games
Expected Outcomes
1. Reduced youth involvement in violent activities.
2. Decreased rates of early marriages and pregnancies.
3. Improved health and well-being.
4. Increased school retention and academic performance.

We are seeking funding to cover the following expenses:
- Recreation equipment: K50,000
