Health Promotion in Congregate Settings

In But Free, together with other partner organisations in Kitwe District, joined the rest of the nation in commemorating the HIV Testing, Counselling, and Treatment Day, held under the theme: “Invest in a Sustainable Future! for HIV, Prevention for a Sustainable Future.”
The commemoration took place at Luangwa Market in Luangwa Township, Kitwe. The Guest of Honour was the Kitwe District Commissioner, Mr Oncemore Ngonomo. Also present was Her Worship the Mayor of Kitwe, Ms Mpasa Mwaya, represented by His Worship the Deputy Mayor, Mr Alex Mwango.
The event further drew participation from the Copperbelt Provincial Health Office, Councillors from across Kitwe District, officials and staff from the Kitwe City Council, representatives from the Kitwe District Health Office, partner organisations operating in the district, as well as health personnel and residents of Luangwa Township.

In But Free, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health through the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme (NTLP), has just concluded a successful 5-day workshop focused on developing a National Rehabilitation Package for Post-TB Lung Disease (PTLD).
This milestone event held in Chilanga at Twangale park brought together a diverse team of TB experts and practitioners from across Zambia, united in a shared goal: to lead the development of a comprehensive PTLD rehabilitation package that will strengthen care and improve quality of life for TB survivors.
Together, we’re shaping a healthier future beyond TB. 💪🏽🫁🇿🇲

Welcome to IN BUT FREE (IBF) page, we are an organisation that promote health in Zambian correctional facilities. The following are some of the activities we do to achieve our gaol: 

1.Train inmates as Peer Educators (PE) 

2. Conduct awareness health talks to inmates and staff 

3. TB screening (Entry, Mass, Passive and Exit) 

4. Training of Correctional Officers as Psycho-Social Counsellors and Treatment Supporters 

5. Training of Correctional Officers and Peers in Nutrition 

6. Training of Correctional Officers in Health Communication 

7. Production and distribution of Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials

8.Production and distribution of Newsletter Magazine called “Inside News” 

9. Follow-up of TB and HIV patients discharged while still on treatment 

10. Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) 

11. Advocacy for improved correctional health 

12. Provision of shaving appliances 

13. Promotion of hygiene 

14. HIV/AIDS surveillance 

15. Support for recreational and educational activities for both juveniles and adults

16. Nutrition support for TB and ART Patients whose Body Mass Index (BMI) is below 18.5 17. Drama support as a communication tool 

18. Supporting Infection Prevention and Control Committees in correctional facilities.
