Tikondane Community Centre Tikondane is a grassroots Community Centre run for and by the people of Katete in Eastern Zambia.

Tiko Lodge gives a very warm welcome to visitors and volunteers, a chance to immerse yourself in the local community and culture ... the Real Africa! Brand new website currently under construction, please check it out at https://tikondane.org

We provide primary education in the lively community school, and literacy and English lessons for parents and adults. We promote better health through HIV/

Aids testing and counselling, health workshops and training, education on nutrition and smallholder farming, and a village outreach programme of home-based carers. We run income generating activities (IGAs) for staff to learn practical skills whilst developing an independent source of income for themselves and Tiko.

We're thrilled to have a young prosthetist volunteering with us this month at Tikondane Community Centre. Whether she's providing professional medical expertise, working closely with children, or planting vegetables in the garden, she's making a real impact.

🌱 TIKONDANE COMMUNITY CENTRE — Vegetable Ring Day!🌱

Our women, led by supervisor Esther, renewing the vegetable rings today. A vegetable ring is a circular garden bed built around a compost pit water and nutrients from the center spread out to every plant, so less water is wasted and greens stay fresh all year.

Growing our own vegetables means healthier food, real savings, and a stronger, more food-secure community. 💚

One of her sources of support is raising pigeons, with the help of the Tikondane community. Right now, GlobalGiving is running a special Bonus Event, which means every dollar you donate to Tikondane Community Centre will be amplified with matching funds! This campaign takes place from July 15 – 16, 2026.
In Katete, Eastern Province, Zambia, 60 of our local families are facing a critical food shortage starting this November due to poor harvests and skyrocketing prices. We need to secure resources before August to ensure children and elderly family members have the maize, legumes, and nutrition they need to survive the hardest months of the year.

Noah lives at Tikondane Community Centre in Katete, Zambia. He was born disabled. Without a wheelchair, he is forced to stay in his small room. Therefore, a new one is vital to improve his life and daily care. For the past 10 years, his brother Amos has cared for him. He also needs basic items such as diapers, soap & other hygiene products.

Tikondane supports 64 families through allowances so they can buy food

Mary's house has no windows nor has it any doors. The dry season is very cold and windy in Katete and in the wet season the heavy rains pour into their home. In the dry season, they have no shelter from the extreme heat.
Helping her will enable a family to live in safety and protected from cold and humidity in the rain season and in the cold nights of the dry season. This would also protect them from thieves!
Mary is a responsible, hardworking single mother at Tikondane Community Centre. She is very appreciated by all members.
