Kasama Residents Denounce Vote Buying.
Allegations suggesting that the United Party for National Development (UPND) is allegedly conducting its door to door campaigns to buy voters cards from eligible electorates, has worried local residents, describing the move as a breach of electoral guidelines.
Local Residents and stakeholders have continued to allege that the UPND are engaging in unlawful activities of buying voters cards from electorates and providing them with mealie meal and money, the move they observed is a serious breach of electoral campaigns.
In an interview with Kasama Radio News, the local residents highlighted that there is need for relevant authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that culprits are brought before law, stating that this poses a serious threat on the countryโs democracy.
As campaigns intensify ahead of the mayoral by election, the Residents are urging various stakeholders to step in and denounce Vote buying in its strongest terms, and allow residents to vote for their preferred candidate without challenges.
Other residents have alleged that the ruling UPND is collecting voterโs cards from electorates as they conduct their door to door campaigns and recording certain personal details, raising concerns over how the information is being used.
They express worry that such practices have the potential to compromise the integrity of the electoral process, urging the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and other relevant authorities to urgently investigate the matter and ensure that all political parties adhere strictly to the rules governing electoral campaigns.
But Northern Province United Party for National Development (UPND) Chairperson Nathan Ilunga has refuted the allegations maintaining that the party has intensified its campaigns ahead of the elections, and is conducting its door to door campaigns, with the target mainly being the eligible voters. He said to the contrary, the party is not confiscating vot
