DISTRICT GOVERNORโS MESSAGE, JUNE 2026
Dear Fellow Rotarian and Rotaract Leaders,
As we continue Uniting for Good, I extend heartfelt gratitude for your leadership and service, which have sustained our clubs and delivered meaningful projects.
May 2026 was a month of goodwill, highlighted by inspiring messages from RI President Francisco Arrenzo and his Special Representative Ahmad Saada. Our District Conference in Salima was well attended, with 400 delegates from 37 Rotary and Rotaract Clubs, joined by spouses in joyful celebration. Truly, we united for good.
Rotary is a continuous movement. We cannot relax while so many still live in unfortunate circumstances. As we move from Uniting for Good to Creating Lasting Change, let us focus on these priorities:
1. Membership Growth
Thank you for sustaining and retaining members. Rotaryโs service is needed in our communities, and fellowship is vital in todayโs challenging world. I commend all presidents who have grown membership and urge continued effort. Our largest club has 73 members, while the smallest has 6. We celebrate the charter of Jacaranda Harare, thanks to Rotary Club of Msasa. Let us work toward new clubs in Lusaka, Kitwe, Lilongwe, Blantyre, Beira, Harare, and Bulawayo. Rotary must grow โ and I have hope we will.
2. Foundation Giving
I appreciate the investments made in Polio and Annual Funds. Every club has a goal; let us meet it. Every Rotarian, Every Year is only $100 โ achievable with proper planning. We need new Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, and Arch Klumph Society members. I thank Rotary Club of Maluba for producing three Major Donors this year: President George Kanja, PP Mary Ncube, and Simal Amor. Let us follow their example.
We received 42 pledges of $500 each, which are worth $21,000.00 and I trust these will be honored promptly. The Foundation Dinner in Lusaka had the sum of $ 58,425.00 in pledges. Contributions at the District Conference totalled about $2,500, with more expected from the Foundation Dinner in Lusaka. We further received top up pledges from some major donors .
Together, we can achieve full participation and increase Rotaryโs impact. I hope all payments will be made by 14th June 2026.
3. District Conference 2026
The Umodzi District Conference was held from 29 April to 3 May at Livingstonia Beach Hotel, Salima, Malawi. With 400 attendees, it was a resounding success. A full report will follow.
4. Rotary International Convention
The RI Convention will take place in Taipei, Taiwan, from 13 to 17 June 2026. So far, 111 Rotarians have registered, and 32 have paid. Visas are being processed. I encourage all of us to attend and unite for the good of our clubs and communities.
5. Club Goals
Please update your goals and achievements in My Rotary. Every club can attain the Club Excellence Award. Let us finalize outstanding service projects that our communities need.
6. Polio
Wild polio virus is circulating in Malawi and Zambia, with one case in Malawi and environmental detection in Zambia. Vaccination campaigns are underway. Let us encourage all children under five to be vaccinated and support local health centres. Clubs that have not remitted polio funds should finalize remittances urgently.
7. Investiture
District Governor Elect Sam Chikowore will hold a special investiture on 27 June 2026 at Hyatt Mickles in Harare. I encourage all to attend and support as we move into Creating Lasting Impact.
I thank all Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, and EarlyActors for Uniting for Good. It has been a pleasure serving you as Governor this year. Let us now unite with DGE Sam in Creating Lasting Impact in 2026โ27.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Marshal Chilenga SC
