Tuesday we had another emergency intake into our children’s home. A two month old baby girl was brought to us in the early evening after her mother died the previous day.

She was walking to the hammer mill and must have just collapsed. Children watching cattle found her in the road with the baby still tied to her back. She had been healthy.

It always shocks us to hear stories like this but sadly it’s not uncommon and the reasons for many of these maternal deaths are never known, one of the sad realities of life in a rural 3rd world country.

Baby girl is strong and healthy though and despite arriving with lots of stomach pain as the result of going from breastfeeding, to cows milk being given through a hole poked plastic bag, to long-life milk in a very poor quality bottle, to finally formula is a good bottle, she is doing much better.

Please pray for her during this time of transition and for the mommies who now have 6 busy babies again/- 3 under 6 months, one 8 month old and 2 young active 1 year olds. Never a dull moment here.

Thanks to all of you that pray and give to make a way for these little ones in times of tragedy. We are blessed to be allowed to be a part of Gods work here.

Some of our friends were able to stay a few extra weeks after others had to leave.

Projects for these weeks were finishing building and welding a huge water tank stand, tiling a bathroom, fixing vehicles as well as plumbing, helping with hay bailing as well as many other projects that came up. We had a blast with them. What a difference their extra time and service made.

Early April also signaled the end to one young man’s three month visit here. He quickly became part of the family here, was a huge blessing and a blast to be around. He and all our friends that came and blessed us with their time will be greatly missed.

In March we had the incredible blessing of having old time friends from Virginia and New Mexico come visit.

While they were here we had so many laughs and while all had been here many times before, there was a mix on nostalgia doing things like fixing vehicles, servicing motorbikes, welding projects, church and holding babies but there were also new projects of installing security cameras, painting a repurposed van with names of all the children we have had at MOL, fixing fridges, assessing broken motors, organizing medical and school supplies, and so many other tasks.

This was definitely the wettest it’s ever been for them and there were many adventures of getting stuck going to and from town along with many tractor pull out rescues.

No matter what they did, they put their whole heart into it not only supporting the ministry but us as a family as well.

Thanks to all who made this trip possible, who sent donations with them and prayed and the many blessings that they/ it brought.

So thankful!❤️

Early last month we were blessed with a new addition here at MOL- Baby Lackson joined our crew at just 4 days old after his young mother passed shortly after his birth.

He’s probably the largest newborn we’ve had here and one of the few that have struggled with jaundice. He is doing great though and has, so far, proved to be an easy baby.

Always something new happening here but please continue keeping the house mothers and children in your prayers as well as his grieving family.

Pray that the family will see Gods hope and grace in the midst of tragedy through Lackson’s care here.

Thanks for all who make stories like this possible through your prayers and support.

This little “big” man had the joy of being reintegrated back into his family in February. His family situation was not the easiest and for a while we wondered if we would be able to find any suitable family for him…. And then GOD provided someone from out of the crowd as the perfect solution!!! We love when God does this!

Emmanuel, your heart and love was as big as your body. Never have we had a baby stretch out so many baby clothes as you or be so in love and permanently attached to their house mama as you were.

We loved your spunky attitude and can’t wait to see all that God has in store for you as you grow.

We will miss you tremendously but know that the same God who brought you under our care, and who provided a forever home for you among family, is the same God who will continue to watch over and care for you as you grow.

Emmanuel- “God is with us” 😊🙏🏻

Friday was a day of great sorrow and shock for us as one of our babies was unexpectedly taken into the arms of Jesus- much earlier than any of us would have humanly wanted.

Baby Chileleko was the smallest of the twin boys that we received early in December at only 10 days old. While his brother was born at a healthy 2.4kg (5 lbs 8 ounces). Chileleko was born a tiny 1.8 kg ( just under 4lbs). When they were brought to us, both of them had lost weight due to the death of their mother. Chipo was strong and quickly put the weight back on.

Little man Chileleko however, struggled with having enough energy to drink more than a few sips of his bottles. Those first few weeks we took turns feeding him every two hours around the clock, and sometimes it would take up to an hour to get him to drink just 1 ounce, but we kept annoying him, tapping his bottle, messing with his ears, nose, and feet, un******ng him and doing whatever we could do to help him stay awake enough to get at least some in.

Melanie and (Amber) even took him into their houses for a week to help the mommies and give this little cutie the fighting chance he needed.

We bought special formula and neonate vitamins for him. Slowly (but steadily he improved. He went from 1.5 kg at his lowest to 2.5kg just a few days ago when he turned two months old. His cheeks were filling out and getting round. He was up to drinking two ounces at a time and was alert and awake. He was still on a strict feeding schedule morning and night and we were still keeping a close eye on him. It seemed he was growing and getting close to thriving.

Thursday night he was alert, awake, drinking well and had a good night but around 05:00 hrs the moms noticed his breathing seemed just a bit different. Not necessarily serious but with him being so tiny we started making plan to rush him to the hospital. Less than an hour and a half later, on the way to the hospital he just suddenly stopped breathing. We were able to get him breathing again a few small times but then within just a few minutes, nothing. In all our efforts, nothing we did could help him take another breath, and he entered into the arms of Jesus.

We are all shattered, shocked and heartbroken. This little cutie has wormed his was into our hearts due to his extra tiny size and serious, fighting spirit. Why hadn’t God answered our prayers for healing? He definitely could have?

These are questions that we may only get answers to one day when we are with Jesus, but in the meantime we know that Chileleko went directly from the arms of those who loved him to the arms of one who loved him first, more than we ever could have imagined. He is in the presence of Love itself and we are called to trust that His ways are higher than our own. God is good, and He is comforting us in our time of sorrow.

Please pray for the mommies, his twin brother, his family and kids at the children’s home. Infant loss is so common here in daily village life of Zambia but we have been protected so long from it.

Please pray for protection against animistic beliefs assisted with twin infant death, and that even through these hard times that God’s glory will shine through.

Thank you for your prayers and for all of you who have been there standing in the gap for us and this ministry through the good times and hard. We appreciate you so much.

We love you little Chileleko. You will forever be missed and never forgotten. Our lives were forever changed by the blessing of knowing and caring for you, even if only for 2 short months.

It’s crazy to see how much changes in so little time. These are tiny snippets of the babies we have had and received in less than 2 years.
I am so thankful for the tireless work of these mommies, Gods watch- care and provision and to all who give and pray to make caring for these (as the older children we have under our care**) possible.

So many lives changed ( as well as diapers ) an so much joy ( though maybe not in the diaper changes 😉)

** we try not to post too many pictures of our older kids to respect their privacy as they become older and social media becomes more accessible globally and in Zambia.

After 22 years of ministry and 15 years of accepting babies and children, last week we experienced another first…

Our fire admission of twins
Two tiny baby boys whose young mom just passed away when they were 9 days old.

Even though they are two different sizes (1.7 kg/ 3lbs 12 oz and 2.2 kg/ 4lbs 13 oz) we think they might be identical. Both had lost weight since their birth and the smaller one was becoming very weak and not wanting to drink but with the special care our moms give, they are both doing much better. Little man even gained 0.2 kg (3oz) in just two days. Praise God!

Please rejoice with us in their safe arrival and join us in praying for their continued health, their grieving family, and strength for the busy housemothers currently caring for 6 babies (3 under the age of 6 month) and 10 older children along with our visiting teens.

Welcome Chipego and Chilileko (Chipo and Chile). We are humbled and blessed to be a part of your story ❤️🙏🏻

Little Handson (affectionately called Handsome by us) came into our care in June of last year after his mother died in a tragic motor vehicle accident coming back home after delivery.

As a baby he was a little snuggle bug and that trait grew with him as he came into a toddlerhood. There was always a little twinkle in his eyes even when he was serious but through tickling him we could usually get a smile.

Choolwe and Handson had loads of fun together and choolwe definitely brought out the silly side of Handson.

Since some of his cousins and younger siblings attended the preschool, next door, they often spent their snack breaks playing with him. His family also visited often which made their bond strong.

His father was eagerly counting down the days until he could be “home” with his large family and all his brothers and sisters and that day has finally come. We have no doubt that he’ll receive lots of love and attention and soon be the “special star” of the family.

We praise God for His protection and provision in Handson’s life. Thanks also to those who pray and give to make stories like this possible ❤️🙏🏻

Recently we had two precious babies be reunified back with their biological family

Baby Choolwe came to us last May after his young mother passed away from complications after birth. He was a cute baby who could warm anyone’s heart with his smile but had a lot of tummy troubles, and would have long difficult bouts of crying, days and nights. Mommy Roleen learned the best ways yo soothe and distract him and became one of the most active, mischievous, curious, always on the move, and into everything baby an toddler we’ve had for a long time.

He definitely kept all the house mommies on their feet at all times! Our very own little “Dennis the Menace” but always with a laugh and smile that made you laugh and smile too.

We are so thankful to God for a wonderful, easy transition back into the care of his father and maternal grandmother (who thankfully is young and able to keep up with him and his antics). We will miss Choolwe greatly, but are so thankful God has allowed us to be a part of His special plan for him😊❤️

It’s been a great term 2 school break. Almost all of our older children had good visits with their extended family and it was so great having our Kalomo teens back visiting for a bit. Lots of excitement, activity and great memories.

Thanks to all who give and pray to make moments like these possible.
