Today we honor the life, service, and sacrifice of K9 Rambo. A true conservation hero and valued member of the K9 family.

After nine years of dedicated service, Rambo, a Belgian Malinois from the Netherlands, served with distinction in Zambia from 2017. Trained to detect wildlife contraband including ivory, bush meat, fi****ms, ammunition, and wildcat skins, he supported over 300 operations and contributed to more than 600 arrests, playing a vital role in the fight against wildlife crime.

Rambo’s work spanned across the country, with a significant impact in Kafue National Park, where he strengthened frontline law enforcement through roadblocks and field operations, helping protect one of Africa’s most important ecosystems.

For many years, Rambo worked closely with his dedicated handlers, Wilson Kaluba and Donald Banda, forming a bond built on trust, discipline, and unwavering commitment. He was not just a working dog, but a loyal teammate and companion.

Tragically, Rambo was later euthanized following a suspected snake bite that caused severe injury, leading to the need for the amputation of his leg. Despite every effort, the difficult decision was made to let him rest with dignity.

To honor his service, the K9 team traveled to Lusaka to pay their final respects to a fellow team member who gave his all in the line of duty.

Rambo will be remembered for his loyalty, courage, and relentless spirit. His legacy lives on in the landscapes he helped protect and in the hearts of those who served beside him.

Rest well, Rambo. You will never be forgotten. 🐾💙

From the field to the system, every patrol tells a story. But what happens to that story matters just as much as collecting it.

In conservation law enforcement, two powerful processes shape every patrol operation: briefing and debriefing.

Before teams deploy, a briefing session sets the tone. Officers are equipped with data collection devices and guided on patrol objectives, ensuring clarity, coordination, and readiness for the field. It’s where preparation meets purpose.
But the real insight emerges at the end.

During the debrief session, raw field data is brought together and analyzed. A designated debriefer compiles information collected during patrols, wildlife sightings, arrests, snares recovered, and poached carcasses among others.
This data, synced from field devices, is processed using EarthRanger, turning field observations into structured intelligence.

What was once scattered field information becomes a powerful decision-making tool, guiding management actions, improving efficiency, and strengthening operational responses.

Because in conservation, what we measure, we can protect better
