Africa is a massive continent, rich in natural resources and abound in beauty. Yet daily life for many on this continent is dark and difficult. An estimated 23 million children attend school hungry every day in Africa alone and more than half of the population lives on less than $2 per day. It doesn't have to be like this. Here is how we are fighting the battle:
Training
Agriculture in Africa is
lagging far behind the rest of the world. As much as 70% of the African population lives off farming, yet they struggle to produce for themselves. We offer learning labs at local schools where both students and parents can learn better farming principles such as crop rotations, soil management and budgeting/forecasting tools. Food
Students and parents have an opportunity to provide meals for themselves through our learning labs. They learn better farming practices by implementing a volunteer based feeding program. We grow different types of foods that increase nutrition and calories, effectively lowering the staggering rates of malnutrion in the community. Literacy
With long distances to walk to school and a lack of food, students are faced with a diffucult decision when it comes to attendence. It is little wonder why truancy rates often soar over 50% and why 1 in 3 cannot read. Through simply offering one nutritious meal every day, students are compelled to come to school and can focus better while there. Malaria
Malaria is a treatable and preventable disease that is still causing havoc accross much of Africa. An estimated 627,000 people died from the disease in 2012 alone, with children being hardest hit. We partner with local health oraganizations to aggressively test and treat this disease, working hard to eradicate it from our planet.
