Strengthening Youth Agency and Community Protection in Central Province - From Knowledge to Action

Through the Space to Lead (S2L) Project, The Youth Platform Three Sixty (TYP360) conducted follow-up engagements with young people in Mkushi, Kapiri Mposhi and Chibombo districts, building on previous discussions around Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Child, Early and Forced Marriage and Unions (CEFMU), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), safeguarding and reporting mechanisms.

The engagements provided an opportunity for young people to reflect on the knowledge gained, share their experiences and discuss how they are applying this information within their communities.

One of the encouraging highlights was seeing peer educators taking action beyond the sessions, from identifying and reporting protection concerns to encouraging fellow adolescents to access youth-friendly services. Discussions also reinforced the importance of community referral pathways, including linkages with Community-Based Volunteers (CBVs), and raising awareness of the Child Helpline (116).

While progress is being made, continued community sensitisation, peer-led outreach and stronger service linkages remain essential to ensuring that no young person is left behind.

When young people are equipped with knowledge and given space to lead, they become powerful agents of change!

The S2L Project is implemented with support from Plan International Zambia, through funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swedish National Office.
