Last night, one of our own, Eager Kapambwe, alongside Mary Mwaba from Global Platform Zambia featured on Sky Fm’s Sky Forum in Lusaka. The forum aimed at highlighting what the hopes and aspirations of the young people are following the just ended general election.

Among the key issues raised were:

1. The need for strengthening of Graduate Training Programs (GP) opportunities and paid internships

2. The need for enactment of the Political Party Regulation Act in order to secure seats for young people at the decision making table.

3. Creating a favourable and competitive environment for SMEs

4. Upholding the rule of law and safeguarding Zambia’s democracy

5. Allocating a percentage of the Farmer Input Support Program towards empowering young people

6. Development and equal distribution of youth-centred initiatives.

7. Meaningful and consistent youth engagement

8. Equal, inclusive and equitable distribution of opportunities in the various sectors of our economy.

9. Strengthening health care systems to ensure accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for all, particularly young people and vulnerable communities.

10. Strengthening the quality of education by investing in quality teaching, learning infrastructure, skills development and ensuring that young people receive an education that adequately prepares them for employment, entrepreneurship and meaningful participation in national development.

Eager also used the opportunity to reaffirm the organization’s commitment to sensitizing the masses on youth-centred initiatives and opportunities, Promoting social accountability and encourage responsible leadership and Bridge the gap between the torchbearers and young people to ensure that young people are not merely consulted during elections but are meaningfully involved in governance and national development.
