Rural Youth For Higher Learning Foundation Limited was founded by former Copperbelt University student, Geofrey Mazunda in 2009 after realizing the challenges he had to access University Education. Whilst at school (Copperbelt University) he noticed how wonderful it is to acquire University Education and on the other hand, having been brought up in a rural community he noticed, how complex it is t
o access appropriate information on how to get government sponsorship. In addition to rural communities, Eastern Province has no public University. This created a solid conclusion in his mind, that rural youths with good grade 12 results need be helped, by sharing suitable information with them on how possible it is to acquire University Education. They encouraged each other to commence the program as the government can not reach youths on the grass roots. Borrowing the words of Bill Ayres, โA man not only needs to know how to fish, he needs to have the freedom to do it and a place to do it. Thatโs where community comes in. We have to help each other, and we feel government has a very important role thereinโ, hence realized that they have no option but to take up responsibility. After graduating from the Copperbelt University in 2012 and 2013 respectively, they settled in Chipata, Eastern Province where Mr. Phiri got a job as a Secondary School Teacher while Mr. Mazunda engaged himself in business. Settling in this District were dreams come true, because it was a targeted area for their project. In 2013 whilst in business arena, Mr Mazunda met Mr. Augustine Nkhoma whom he sub-contracted in IDs processing business. Mr. Nkhoma and Mr. Mazunda had a great understanding in their business; hence he identified Mr Nkhoma as a potential board member of (RYHLFL). The three young men agreed to work together as a team in order to help rural youths obtain Higher Education from Government sponsored Universities. The organization was initially called Geochips Higher Learning Foundation and formally registered as Rural Youths For High Learning Foundation Limited.
