Bishop George Lungu's Call to Humility and Selflessness for Newly Ordained Priests
In a heartfelt homily at St. Anne's Cathedral Parish, Bishop George Lungu urged four newly ordained priests to embrace humility and selflessness in their sacred calling. Addressing the newly ordained deacons, Bishop Lungu emphasized that their vocation is a willing response to serve others, not a coerced obligation.
Acknowledging the daily challenges faced by many, which can sometimes lead to desperate actions such as su***de, he urged the new priests to be beacons of hope and guidance, prioritizing the well-being of others over material gain. He cautioned against the love of money, reminding them that their work should be driven by a genuine desire to serve rather than financial reward.
Bishop Lungu also called on all priests within the diocese to recommit themselves to Jesus, the high priest, and to cherish the gift of their priesthood. He appealed to parents to encourage their children to consider a life of religious service, ensuring the continuation of a devoted and compassionate clergy.
The ordination ceremony, which included deacons Lemmy Tembo, Tyson Zulu, Daliso Mbewe, and Adrian Matebesi, highlighted the dual focus on spiritual and social responsibilities, underscoring the interconnectedness of faith and community welfare.
