We were blessed to receive two visitors who came with open hearts to learn about our work supporting survivors of GBV and children in our OVCs programs. Together we toured our office project and spent time in our community garden proof that with care and unity, we can grow solutions from our own soil. A Day Begins With Purpose

Our routine includes:

2. Farming: Planting, weeding and maintaining crops for household food security

Sustainable Smart Agriculture through Organic Farming at the Wheels of HOPE Community Garden

At the Wheels of HOPE Community Garden, we are promoting sustainable smart agriculture by adopting organic farming practices and innovative sunken garden bed technology. This approach helps conserve water, improve soil fertility, and increase crop productivity while reducing dependence on synthetic fertilizers and chemicals.

The sunken garden beds are designed to capture and retain moisture, making them highly effective in areas affected by drought and climate change through these practical demonstrations, the community gains hands-on knowledge of climate-smart agriculture, organic composting, soil conservation, and sustainable food production.

The Community Garden serves as a learning field school where women, youth, orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs), and survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) develop agricultural skills that strengthen household food security, improve nutrition, and create income-generating opportunities.

By integrating organic agriculture with climate-resilient farming techniques, Wheels of HOPE is cultivating healthier communities, protecting the environment, and building resilient livelihoods for a sustainable future.

The Wheels of HOPE Community Garden is doing more than growing crops. We are cultivating sustainable development, resilience and stronger more inclusive communities.

The challenges before us are real poverty, gender-based violence, hunger and social exclusion. But our commitment to change is even greater.

Through the Community Garden, we empower families with practical agricultural skills to grow nutritious food, strengthen household food security and create sustainable sources of income.
Through our capacity-building programs we equip women, young people and community leaders with skills in sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, leadership and community protection.

Together we are building self-reliant communities. Every seed planted represents hope. Every harvest creates opportunity. Every person trained becomes a catalyst for lasting change.

Wheels of HOPE GBV and OVC Coalition, in collaboration with Chipembele Wildlife Trust, successfully conducted a community sensitization outreach in Mambwe District aimed at promoting sustainable community development and protecting vulnerable populations.

The outreach focused on raising awareness about the effects of constructing houses within wildlife Game Management Areas (GMAs), emphasizing the importance of proper land-use planning and wildlife conservation. Community members were also educated on practical strategies for preventing and resolving human-wildlife conflicts to promote peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.

In addition, the programme addressed the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by encouraging respect, equality, and the protection of women, girls, and other vulnerable groups. The outreach also highlighted the importance of supporting Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) through community care, education, protection, and access to essential services.

Through this collaborative initiative, Wheels of HOPE GBV and OVC Coalition and Chipembele Wildlife Trust reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening community awareness, promoting environmental stewardship, safeguarding human rights, and building resilient communities across Mambwe District.

A resilient community is not built by one person, It is built when many people decide to carry the weight together.
The challenges we face poverty, gender-based violence, hunger and exclusion are big but our spirit is bigger. Through our Community Garden we are teaching families how to feed themselves and create income. Through our trainings, we are equipping women, youth and leaders with skills in agriculture, business, leadership and protection. Through our partnerships we are proving that when government, organizations and community members work together doors open that once seemed closed. And through our commitment to strong systems and accountability we are building an organization that will serve this community for generations to come. We may start small, but we are growing something lasting. A future where women are empowered, children are protected and no one is left behind! That future starts with us today.

At Wheels of Hope GBV and OVCs Coalitions organization we are turning commitment into action and action into visible progress. This month we have been in communities educating families on Gender Based Violence and child protection, while also strengthening our own foundation by working on our office space so we can serve the community better and have a dignified place to run our programs. At the same time our Wheels of Hope Community Garden is growing as a demo site where women are learning gardening and sustainable farming to take back to their homes. The message is clear if we can grow it here, you can grow it at home. Already mothers are using these skills to feed their children and create small income for their families. Every training, every seed planted and every brick we lay is proof that change starts with us. We are grateful for every hand that supports this work and we remain committed to planting hope today so that safety, food security and dignity can grow for generations to come.
