MY MESSAGE ON THIS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE MIDWIFE (IDM) 2024
===========================================
On this International Day of the Midwife, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all midwives who dedicate their lives to the health and well-being of women, children, and families in Zambia and around the world.
Midwives play a crucial role in our communities, providing essential care and support during pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond. Your compassion, expertise, and commitment make a significant difference in ensuring safe and positive birthing experiences.
This year's theme, "Midwives: A Vital Climate Solution," highlights the important role midwives play in promoting sustainability and addressing the impacts of climate change. By supporting maternal and newborn health, midwives contribute to healthier populations and more resilient communities.
To the midwives, I thank you for your tireless efforts and unwavering dedication. Your work is invaluable, and you truly are the unsung heroes of our healthcare systems.
To the women, children, and families, I encourage you to recognize and appreciate the vital role midwives play in your lives. Seek out their care and support, and trust in their expertise to guide you through your healthcare journey.
To the leaders at every level, I urge you to prioritize investments in midwifery education, training, and resources. By supporting midwives, you are investing in the health and well-being of your communities and contributing to a sustainable future for all.
Midwives, your role in promoting sustainable practices, educating on climate health impacts, and advocating for climate action is vital. Continue to be champions for environmental sustainability in healthcare.
Women, Children, and Families, adopt sustainable behaviors and support healthcare facilities that prioritize environmental sustainability.
Leaders at Every Level, invest in climate-resilient healthcare, support midwifery education and training, and promote sustainable policies to address the dual challenges of maternal and child health and climate change.
Together, let us all commit to supporting midwives and recognizing their vital role in healthcare and climate action. Together, we can build a healthier, more sustainable world for generations to come.
