Yesterday, we took part in a Town Hall Meeting organized by The Free Press Initiative in Chipata, Eastern Province. This event provided a critical platform for citizens and stakeholders to engage in open discussions on governance, accountability, and civic participation, particularly with the August 13, 2026 General Elections approaching. The discussions focused on credible information dissemination during elections, media literacy, peaceful participation, and the importance of transparency in leadership. Additionally, the engagement emphasized the crucial role of institutions, media outlets, and citizens in reinforcing democracy through informed participation. As we approach the 2026 elections, these conversations are instrumental in fostering responsible participation, informed decision-making, and peaceful civic engagement

Today, members of the Kwayedza Youth Community Group proudly participated in the 2026 National Youth Indaba through a virtual session hosted at Chipata College of Education. The engagement brought together young people eager to contribute to national development and to reflect on the youth empowerment agenda in Zambia.
The virtual participation was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts and the National Youth Development Council - Zambia (NYDC), whose commitment to youth engagement continues to create platforms where young voices can be heard.. The engagement also reminded us that when young people are given space, guidance, and opportunity, they can truly arise and soar.
As Kwayedza Youth Community Group, we remain committed to promoting community development, environmental protection, leadership, and youth empowerment in our communities.
Together we learn.
Together we lead.
Together we arise and soar.

ARISE AND SOAR – Through Service and Action
today we rose to the occasion of planting trees at Chipata District Hospital. The event was organized by National Youth Development Council - Zambia
Under this year’s theme, “Arise and Soar,” we chose not just to speak about change but to plant it. Planting trees is more than an environmental activity. It is a symbol of Growth, Hope,&Responsibility.A future we are committed to protecting
We were honored to have the District Administration Officer (DAO) as our Guest of Honor, whose presence encouraged us to continue rising as young people who care about our community and environment.
To arise means to stand up and take responsibility.
To soar means to go beyond limits and make lasting impact.
Today, we did both.
The trees we planted will provide shade, clean air, and beauty for generations to come. This is the power of youth when we rise together, we soar higher together. Many thanks to Chipata City Council & Chamahala 'Wisdom' Gardens for donating trees that we have planted today. Yesterday Kwayedza Youth Community stood proudly with Green Nature at St. Margaret School in Chipangali District during the unveiling of a newly installed low budget biodigester a clear message that communities can lead the climate fight from the ground up.
This was not just an event. It was a call to action.
We engaged pupils in a powerful conversation about plastic waste exposing how plastic pollution is destroying our land, blocking our waterways, and threatening the health and future of our people. We challenged them to become defenders of the environment, not silent victims of pollution.
When young people understand the climate crisis, change becomes unstoppable. These pupils showed us that climate leadership has no age limit. If children can commit to protecting the planet, then adults must stop making excuses.
The biodigester stands as a symbol of solutions over complaints, action over silence, and community power over neglect. We believe sustainable development must reach every school, every village, and every child.
As Kwayedza Youth Community, we say it clearly:
The environment is non-negotiable
♻️ Plastic pollution must end
Climate action must start now
The future is watching us.
And we choose to act.

Our first meeting reminded me that change does not wait for age, titles, or perfection. It begins when young minds are given space to dream and guidance to act. Watching these pupils listen, ask questions, and share their thoughts was a beautiful reminder that the purest form of leadership is born early, when compassion is still natural and care for the earth comes instinctively.
Roots & Shoots at SHINE VIEW Academy is proof that even the youngest hands can plant the strongest roots. If nurtured well, these children will grow not only into responsible citizens, but into guardians of our environment and community. Today, I didn’t just meet pupils I witnessed the beginning of a generation that will do better, because they are learning early to love, protect, and act.

As Christmas approaches, let's ensure our celebrations don't harm the environment. Instead, let's make conscious choices to reduce our ecological footprint.
1. Use reusable items for dining and decor
2. Limit plastic use and unnecessary waste
3. Select products that are locally sourced and sustainable Let's also combat food waste: Plan meals carefully, prepare food, share excess with neighbors or those in need, and store leftovers properly.
