SuNREI Zambia participated during the ongoing negotiations on the UN binding treaties on Business and Human Rights in Geneva Switzerland. And one of the side events was a protest March against the genocide happening in Palestine

SuNREI Zambia, has been making follow ups in kalusale community of Kalulushi to ascertain the impact of the acidic effluents that was released in the community by Sino Metals a Chinese mining Company in Chambeshi area which has affected these community members negatively. Most of the people will not be able to use the same land for agriculture and fishing in the Mwambashi stream owing to the level of contamination.
On the other hand, Sino metals is trying to mitigate people's challenges by giving them mealie meal and some cash and water. In one of our visit we met up with a team from DRIZIT ENVIRONMENTAL ZAMBIA, a consultancy firm from South Africa engaged to carry out a study on the impact of pollution in the river, wells, and soils and make recommendations on the restoration of water is affected.
Positive as it may be, the team did not have any representation of ZEMA and WARMA costing doubt of the outcome of the study!.

From the community engagement, the worrying findings were that initially people made responsible for issuing cushion funds were not giving what Sino metals had released to give people, some affected people are not on the list of beneficiaries, water being given is not enough as the communities have been told not to use water from the river and Wells.
