Our Vision Statement:
A clinic at the border to DR Congo in Chililabombwe/ Kasumbalesa
The Clinic is to assist the population in the border area by targeting the most common health issues and providing health care in various forms. The clinic will be run by local staff and international volunteers of needed multidisciplinary professions such as medical doctors, nurses, bio-analysts, nutritionist
s, lifestyle counselors and alike. In the clinic only outpatients will be treated. If a condition is diagnosed acute and severe, the patient will be referred to the best possible institution, possibly a government or private hospital. The clinic will implement its broad variety of activities divided into four main areas, the Diagnostic Center, the Research Library, the Community Empowerment and the Joyful Outreach. Services aimed to be established are:
Diagnostic Center,
where a multidisciplinary team will discuss the patients conditions based on their professional knowledge and come to agreement according to international research and evidence based standards for a course of treatment. From here the patients may be referred to other institutions or get a follow up as outpatients. Research Library,
all treatments and effects will be documented thoroughly in anonymized form and made available to the public. All research that the treatments are based upon are likewise open to the public.The Library is digital but provides also possibilities to print and copy materials
Community Empowerment,
providing educational services that are practical applicable in regards to prevent and treat diabetes, high blood pressure, sexual transmitted diseases as courses on all communicable and non-communicable conditions occurring in the area, basic hygiene, additional smoking cessation training, healthy living ("live to be a hundred"), women in Zambia get love and respect (to take care of your mother, sister and wife), the aspects of aging, the physiology of movement/physical education, gardening and food preparation, juice therapy seminars, mental disorders (stress, depression and other psychiatric conditions)
Joyful Outreach,
fellowship and the joy of living play a central role in the treatment of any condition. Therefore we will engage our patients and the populations around the clinic in different events and activities with mainly social character. Some activities are gender based, others age related and again others are all gender and generation based. For example football tournaments (The Namumba Foundation Cup), Senior Citizens Day (Thank you for building this country), Kids explore Zambia (Adventure tours to get to know your country/in cooperation with Vots). The physical structure of the clinic will be serving mainly as a port of entry where preliminary assessments are being done, like basic blood-works, blood cultures, urine cultures, electrocardiogram, etc, patient anamnesis and a further course of action will be established according to the preliminary findings. A care center for senior citizens in Chililabombwe/ Fitobaula
The Care-center Mwendapole will be the first care center in Chililabombwe ever. It's aim is to support and enable senior citizens in the low income communities to lead a dignified existence in the autumn of their life's. Many have worked hard all their life, but are standing with little support now due to structural and sociopolitical incompatibility between the needs of this part of the population and the provisions given by a culture, that is dramatically changing and being on one side "westernized" in form of in-cooperating materialistic values into the general population, but on the other hand lacking the solidarity based models that make care for the elderly possible in our welfare systems. The Care-center Mwendapole will focus on two main services, Social-and Healthcare and Aging Awareness:
Social-and Healthcare,
providing room for elderly citizens with the basic hygienic, nutritional, social and spiritual necessities and medical treatment, as also a structure of skilled social and healthcare personnel to meet the specific needs of the geriatric patient and aging man or woman. The Care-center will provide room for social and meaningful activities that use the resources of each individual to enrich the community. The Care-center will have as part of its structure an incorporated palliative section. Aging Awareness,
the Care-center will serve as an example on how to provide a caring and dignified environment for those who served before us. It will spread knowledge about the many different aspects of aging and how it affects all areas of the life. Aging as part of the human experience needs to be address in many different ways, because aging is experienced in many different ways. Therefore the Care-center will engage in many community activities to create awareness and dialogue. The physical structure of the Care-center Mwendapole will be in form of different bungalows or apartments, that can accommodate couples or singles. Additionally there will be rooms for permanent staff and rooms for international volunteers. Though the treatment will be professional, the nature and character of the care center will be warmhearted and like a family.
