Thank you to everyone who joined us at our London reception this week. It was great to see so many familiar and new faces 😊

The highlight of the evening was hearing from one of our graduates Elias Chalumbila, who joined live from Zambia alongside our Country Director Chilufya Kasutu (pictured left on screen, with Elias in green on the right).

Elias trained with us in 2022. Today, he's working and thriving - he’s taking on jobs, developing his skills and employing others. An incredible young man, and a real credit to everything he’s achieved - kudos! 👏👏

And we celebrate every young person who has gone through our training programme. We know that stepping into the world of work isn’t easy, and right now it can feel especially tough.

To all the young people working hard to build their futures: we see you, we’re proud of you, and we’re sending you lots of courage and belief 💪✨

🛠️ We're so proud of the new facilities for the children at Malundu School 🏫

The learning block houses three classrooms, plus a library to help improve literacy. There’s a small staff room, and a head teacher’s office with secure storage for exam papers. We also built a latrine block for pupils, plus a smaller separate one for the teachers.

🧡 Thank you so much to everyone who helped make all this possible.

Since 2021, general education has been free across Zambia. It has helped open the classroom door to thousands of children who might otherwise have missed out.

But access is only part of the journey. It is estimated that over the next decade, Zambia will need to recruit around 7,000 teachers and construct 4,000 classrooms each year to keep pace with demand.

Ensuring every child receives a quality education needs sustained investment, resources and long-term commitment.

This week, we joined with Teveta Zambia to co-host our first National Research Seminar, "𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗮", with the support of Embassy of Ireland, Zambia

Over 80 academics, TVET practitioners, industry partners and policymakers came together to share evidence, debate findings and agree practical ways forward.

His Excellency, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Ambassador of Ireland, opened the seminar by reminding us what is at stake: Zambia's construction sector has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of jobs and build the infrastructure that will power this country's future. The question running through the day was, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵?

In her presentation, Professor Chipozya Tembo put it well: "when there is a need to build a bridge, it is because there is a gap." She also challenged every man to be true allies and active supporters of women in the construction workspace, not passive ones.

In his closing remarks, TEVETA Director General, Cleophas Takaiza, reinforced what the day demonstrated in practice: partnerships and linkages are critical to strengthening Zambia's TVET sector and opening more pathways for women.

𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Learning never stops! 👏

This week our construction trainers stepped into the learner's seat, taking part in a computer literacy course.

The training was delivered by TopFloor Zambia, led by Charles Ngalasa. From mastering the basics to embracing new digital skills, it was fantastic to see everyone fully engaged.

A big well done to Kellis, Modest, Christopher, Pascal, George and Stanley for bringing their A-game! 💥 It was clear to see their commitment, focus and positive attitude throughout the sessions.

Great learning. Great example 👏

🏫 We’ve only just completed the new classrooms at Miswa School - but it’s already clear that this is so much more than a building.

It’s a catalyst for improvements that strengthen the school, helping more children to thrive 💪

The school has welcomed a new headteacher Mr John Nkandu Mumba. His leadership is helping to guide this next chapter for Miswa. Mr Mumba has already introduced a new school uniform to help build pride, identity and belonging amongst the young learners.

🗨️ Mr Mumba shared: “I am happy to be here and to be part of this new journey. The children are excited and committed to taking care of the new school. This is a great beginning for Miswa, and we hope the government will send more teachers to support this growing community.”
