I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Zambia Africa from 2006-2008. I was working on a project with local community memebers to build a public library. I was unable to finish the project before the end of my contract. Leila is the new volunteer at my post, and she has been working tirelessly to try and complete this project. On December 5,2009 I am hosting a benefit, in which all proceeds will be
donated to complete the project. I hope to expand and continue to raise funds throughout the years to support this literacy project in Chadiza, Zambia. August 1,2010
Laila worked tirelessly to get the library set up before she returned to the states. 600lbs of books made their way to the village of Chadiza in March. Currently the books are being stored at a local business mans' house awaiting the hiring of a librarian. The room has been secured and all materials needed have been put in place. I am working on saving enough money to return to Zambia before the end of the year. I hope to connect with Ministry officials and spend my time there working to employ a librarian and getting the library to a point of functionality.
