Zambia Association of Parents for Children with Disabilities ZAPCD participated in a five-day Inclusive Advocacy Training held in Chongwe at Chimutunzi Lodge, whose focus was on identifying out-of-school children and promoting supportive, inclusive education transitions.

The training brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Zambia Association on Employment for Persons with Disabilities (ZAEPD), Disability Rights Watch (DRW), the Zambia Federation of Disability Organizations (ZAFOD), and the Chongwe Network Archie Hinchicliff Disability Intervention AHDI.

Participants discussed and explored:

>Barriers to accessing education for children with disabilities

>The importance of rights-based education policies

>The critical roles played by families and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in ensuring children not only start school but also progress and stay in school.

The training was facilitated by NAD.

This collaborative and transformative training is the foundation for rolling out advocacy efforts in Inclusive Education.

ZAPCD invited the Government officials for the provincial advocacy and had a privilege to have a site visit of the physical infrastructure built by the project (Ones Ana Aphunzire) at Katantha primary school as an example of what the standard accessible structure should look like.

ZAPCD in partnership with Able Child, handed over the 6 modified ECE classrooms at Katantha the centre of excellence, Chadiza primary, Nsadzu, Chilenga, Tadyela, Kabvumo primary school and 3 double VIP toilets were built at Katantha, Kabvumo,and Tadyela. These facilities were handed over to the Ministry of Education through DEBS Chadiza. During the Hand over ceremony the District commissioner and His Royal highness Chief Zingalume commissioned the ECE Classrooms and toilets. Over 300 plus were sensitized on disability Right and the importance of enrolling children with disabilities to enjoy Inclusive Education.
