We remember her. Tania Zungu. A mother. A daughter. A woman deeply loved. A life that should still be here.

After two years of returning to court, standing alongside the Zungu family and calling for accountability, Tania’s husband was sentenced to life imprisonment for her murder.

There is relief in seeing justice served, but there is no sentence that can return Tania to those who loved her. Justice does not undo the violence. It does not restore the years, moments and future that were taken from her. But accountability matters.

We honour the MOSAIC team who kept showing up over these past two years, mobilising, standing outside court, supporting the Zungu family and refusing to allow Tania’s name or her case to disappear.

And above all, we honour Tania.

May she be remembered as a woman whose life mattered enough to keep demanding justice for.

Today, on World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate teachers not only for what they teach, but for the safety, care and possibility they help create around children every day.

Teachers are often among the first adults outside the home to notice when something has changed. They listen. They recognise the signs. They create spaces where children can speak, ask questions and feel seen.

Through Imbeleko, our work with adolescents continues to remind us that preventing violence starts long before harm happens. It starts in the everyday spaces where young people learn about identity, relationships, equality, boundaries and respect. Teachers are an important part of that ecosystem of prevention.

Today, we honour the educators who understand that safeguarding is part of shaping a generation that knows what safety feels like, recognises harm and believes in their right to speak.

You educate. You notice. You listen. You protect. You inspire.

Happy World Teachers’ Day to the teachers helping to build safer futures for our children. 💜

Care continues, even after the office closes💜

For someone experiencing violence or navigating a moment of crisis, access to the right support at the right time can be an important step towards safety.

This October, Carinne Boesak is MOSAIC’s after-hours social worker on standby, helping to ensure that our continuum of care extends beyond regular office hours.

Throughout the month, Carinne will be available to respond to urgent after-hours calls and referrals, provide immediate emotional support and crisis intervention, and connect survivors to further services and care where needed.

This work is about continuity: ensuring that when someone reaches out, there is a pathway to support, no matter the hour.

Not something they had to fight for, negotiate or demand but something they learned, lived and expected in their homes, relationships and communities.

For our Gender Equality & Safety Manager, that is what she hopes to pass on this Heritage month.

Because prevention begins long before violence happens. It begins with what we teach about gender, power, respect and relationships and with the examples we choose to set.

This Heritage Month, we continue to reflect on in our society, Miselwa encourages us to think about what it would take to make equality part of the inheritance we leave behind.
