Powerful day spent with our Dreamspire Mentees!💫

In Saturday’s Career Guidance Workshop, our young people learnt a tool that will serve them for life: *PAUSE* when making ethical decisions.

*P* - *P*roblem: What’s really going on?
*A* - *A*lternatives: What choices do I have?
*U* - *U*nderstand: Who will be affected?
*S* - *S*elect: What’s the best choice?
*E* - *E*valuate: Did it work out?

We linked this directly to their futures. The truth is: every career, whether you’re a doctor, entrepreneur, engineer, or creative, will test your character. They were reminded that TODAY’s DECISIONS will affect ALL THEIR TOMORROWS The decisions you make today in the classroom, with friends, and online are practice for the ethical decisions you’ll make as professionals in the future..

When you learn to *PAUSE*, you protect your reputation, your relationships, and your career path.

What a Powerful Morning! We met our new 2025 Mentees + parents and signed a 4-year collaboration with Arcadia Secondary School and Dreamspire, taking us through to December 2028.

Parents heard our vision, mission, and the journey the Mentees will walk over the next 4 years.

Before Dreamspire, Bonteheuwel felt like the whole world. People made us believe there were limits, that you can’t do this or that, and that you would only end up as a barber, a cleaner, or a general worker. That was all we thought life had to offer.

Dreamspire completely changed my mindset.

They made me believe in opportunities. More than that, they gave us the courage to chase them. We didn’t just sit in a room talking about careers, we actually experienced them.

One day, we were at a fire station learning CPR and discovering what it really takes to become a firefighter. The next day, I was at a military base living out something I had always dreamed of. That’s when it hit me, the army isn’t just about soldiers on the ground. You can join the air force, become a pilot, a nurse, or even a chef. Who knew?

Dreamspire showed me that there is a whole world outside of Bonteheuwel. They sacrificed their time and effort to help us learn, grow, and experience it for ourselves, and I appreciated that so much because not many people would do that for others.

I’ll be honest, when the program first started, I thought it was a joke. I wasn’t interested at all. I was one of the people saying, “Nah, who wants to join that?” But something told me to give it a chance, just to see what it was about.

This week, we had the privilege of taking our mentees to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology Open Day, exposing them to new possibilities, career paths, and the power of higher education.
