The BOs Mayoral Candidate Cllr Nik Wullschleger had the privilege of attending the ECD Imbizo and Manifesto launch this morning.
We all agree that xhildren need safe places to learn and play, and that the people who care for them need the support to keep them safe.
"Real Reform for ECD, in partnership with Inceba Trust, and dozens of ECD practitioners in Breede Valley, got together to share their challenges and proposed solutions with political candidates."
For too long already have ECD practitioners been struggling in the Breede Valley! If its not water, it's electricity or spilling sewage. The current political leadership are not capable or caring enough to give effect to ECD. It's time for change.
" Many ECD centres have no electricity, lack permissions and building plans, even on municipal land. Tenure is insecure or short term. Fees, rates and municipal rents take money away from salaries and children’s food. Waste is not collected near centres. Municipal ECD spending and grant awards are not transparent."
Political parties and councillors were invited to attend, listen and buy-in to a shared ECD vision. The BO, DA, EFF, Patriotic Alliance, ACC and SACP attended.
We were invited to commit to five ECD priorities:
✅ Put children first when the water cuts
✅ Include ECD in disaster management plans and budgets
✅ Stop pricing ECD out of compliance
✅ Give practitioners land and buildings they can use
✅ Adopt the practitioner-developed ECD policy within the first 100 days, and pass an ECD by-law within the first year
The BO was clear in our commitment and we will take action to ensure that these priorities are included in the IDP and funded.
