Making a difference through education!

During March, the LBRCT rangers had the opportunity to visit Ouplaas Primary School, where they engaged with learners about the importance of protecting the endangered and vulnerable animals of the Breede River Estuary.
To support the learners further, we also donated stationery to the school.

Together, we’re inspiring the next generation to care for our environment and protect our natural heritage. Should you wish to support future school visits, we would be incredibly grateful. The LBRCT is a registered NGO and PBO and can issue tax certificates for donations.

Today we had the pleasure of visiting Slangrivier Primary School. Our rangers educated the students on what an estuary is, the work that we do, and why the Breede is one of the most important estuaries in the country. The learners and staff showed great participation following the talk.
The LBRCT also donated rugby and netball balls and whistles to the school.

Should you wish to donate towards future school visits, we would be highly appreciative. The LBRCT is a registered NGO and PBO that can issue tax certificates for donations. Please contact us by emailing [email protected] or WhatsApp 064 774 3862 for more information.

The LBRCT had the privilege of joining the Turtle Rescue Network team from the Two Oceans Aquarium during November to release three turtles back into the ocean after being successfully rehabilitated. One of which was Nori, a large green turtle that the LBRCT rescued from the St Sebastian Bay in May 2023. The turtles were released at Koppie Alleen in the De Hoop Nature Reserve where they will enjoy the beautiful waters of the De Hoop Marine Protected Area. Nori was fitted with a satellite tracker and has since made her way out to deeper waters.

The Turtle Rescue Network team are passionate, dedicated individuals who spend many many hours nursing the turtles back to full strength (in this case years). We are so grateful to have been able to play our part too! 🐒🌎
