Hello everyone. A Wits University MSc (Med) Vaccinology student is running a short, anonymous survey on rabies risk and animal-bite awareness along the Garden Route (ethics ref M260120). It is open to adults aged 18+ who live, work or spend time on the coast; no contact with seals is needed. It closes on Saturday 31 October: https://redcap.link/owmujq73

September is Recycle Month 🌍

Yesterday, the LBRCT hosted another clean-up together with a small school situated outside Swellendam called Kluitjieskraal Primary. The 30 pupils were very well behaved and exceeded expectations when they collected another 8 bags of litter weighing 35 kilograms. A big thank you to Koffie n Kletz - Witsand Market for your sponsorship of roosterkoeks and Anchorage Beach Restaurant for the cooldrinks. The school loved their visit, with a few children seeing the ocean for the first time!

September is Recycle Month 🌿

For this year's International Coastal Clean-up event, we organised for all 100 pupils of Vondeling Primary School to join us for a beach clean-up last week Friday. A total of 13 bags and 51 kilograms of litter was removed. Afterwards, the LBRCT made boerewors rolls and provided cooldrink for the children.

⚠️ FLOOD WARNING – LOWER BREEDE RIVER ⚠️

Residents, farmers, businesses, and all communities along the Lower Breede River are advised that imminent flooding is expected due to rising river levels and continued inflow upstream.

Water levels may increase rapidly and will result in:
* Flooding of low-lying areas
* Damage to roads, bridges, and infrastructure
* Dangerous river currents and debris
* Restricted access to affected areas

All residents near the riverbanks are urged to:
* Move livestock, vehicles, and valuable equipment to higher ground immediately
* Fasten down jetty structures and remove water pumps
* Avoid crossing flooded roads or bridges
* Stay clear of the river and fast-flowing water
* Monitor official municipal and disaster management updates closely

Emergency services and disaster management teams remain on high alert and are monitoring the situation continuously.

Please treat this warning seriously and prioritise your safety and that of your family.
