Now let’s see how Labour Committee as one of the subcommittees of this forum has moved and shaken Willowvale Town. This committee has started by checking status of our shops in Willowvale and the manner in which our brothers and sisters who are employed in these shops are treated. This committee conducted inspection in all the stores in Willowvale to ensure compliance and fair labour practice. The findings are that all the shops that are run by foreigners and foreign nationals are not compliant, only Khulani that is run by Jafta that is complient, when you look at SMMEs, interestingly but they have permits to run business though they are not SARS compliant. Obvious conditions within which our brothers are working under leaves more questions than answers, however we referred none compliance to the municipality fortunately the raid had law enforcement, police, labour and us, so there and then illegal imigrants were arrested and law enforcement fined all the shops that were not complying but as I write those shops are still operating as usual though they are not complying , now we need advise from you as to what should we do now as a forum (to ensure that all the shops are compliant) if the municipality is turning a blind eye on this?

Let’s see what initatives economic development committee came up with in responding to poverty and unemployment. The findings of the committee in respect of economic living standards of Willowvale communities are that, there is alarming growing number of working age people who are not employed added by those who are not employable but still have not yet reached 60 years to qualify for old age grant. Basically the majority house holds do not have income, they rely on old age and child support grant though there are graduates who graduated but never saw work door step since graduation, some have +~ twenty years without job yet the cost of their education was carried by their parents who spent the last cent thinking that they were investing in human resource kanti bazikhanda ngendyeke etyeni.

To respond to this, the committee looked at what makes Willowvale unique to other towns and agreed that Willowvale is rich in natural resources like land, ocean, tourism, sand, rocks etc, that can create business and employment opportunities. Through these resources they identified potential areas of focus that can stimulate business and econone growth, such as agriculture, ocean economy, tourism, mining, manufacturing, property sector, skills development, education and training. Thereafter this forum recommended to WDF executive that there is a need for Willowvale Development Strategic Planning to develop strategic development plan for the entire Willowvale , focusing on the above identified potential natural resources. The aim of the planning session was to unpack availablelable business opportunities in each potential natural resource. The WDF then facilitated Willowvale Development Summit to allow deligates to formulate their own policy of development that will guide development of entire Willowvale. The summit was broken down into seven commissions namely:

Facilitated Panel on Ocean Economy

Facilitated Panel on Tourism

Facilitated Panel on Mining

Facilitated Panel on Manufacturing

Facilitated Panel on Property Sector

Facilitated Panel on Skills development Education and Traing.

Guest speakers who have expertise on these focus development areas were arranged to come and upack commissions to give guidance as to what is expected to each commission before deligates were sent to commitions. The summit was set for 2nd and third of May 2025, venue was Weza Community Hall and accommodation for deligates was booked at Ezamaxesibe BnB.

There are three committees that were formed by WDF general meeting that executed their functions namely roads, labour and economic development.
ROADS COMMITTEEE
Roads committee has assessed all the provincial roads of Willowvale and arranged them ngokobu worse bazo then the committee yenza i recommendation for maintenance to the MEC for roads and transport through Honourable Toni who is deployed to Willowvale Parliamentary Constituency Office and the chairperson of roads committee at the legislature. The first meeting was held successfully with Honourable Toni, now the office of the WDF secretary is busy arranging the second meeting with Mr Toni to finalise on outstanding issues, then when we come back from that meeting we will be able to tell exactly what is happening with Dwesa phase 3 tar road and the maintenance plan of deplorable gravel roads.

In the eyes of government Willowvale is divided into ten wards. Willowvale Development Forum convened Willowvale Meeting represented by members from all wards of Willowvale. The meeting was specifically tasked to assess the state of Willowvale Economy paying particular attention to service delivery challenges and employment opportunities.

In respect of service delivery members argued and raised deeply concerns about the condition of Willowvale roads. They argued that the deplorable condition of roads is leaving the majority of inhabitants to navigate hazarduous gravel roads that are often impassable particularly during bad weather conditions. These inadequate road networks hinder essential services like healthcare, education, crime prevention and impede economic development by limiting the transportation of goods and access to markets. The poor road infrastructure therefore contributes to the isolation, marginalisation of rural communities and exacerbating socio-economic disparities.
Other concerns were about water and housing. Members argued that, for years there is no supply of water especially in areas with water infrastructure to the extent that the infrastructure now is falling apart and dilapidated. Lastly the failure by government to address housing demand by destitute families of Willowvale was also raised as a serious concern.

In response to these challenges that were raised by our community members in that meeting the forum established service delivery committees as sub committees of the forum in order to respond and address the above mentioned service delivery challenges. Among subcommittees is roads, water and housing committees.
