A Kind Appeal to All 60/60 and Debonairs Motorcycle Delivery Riders

To all our valued 60/60 and Debonairs motorcycle delivery riders:

This is a sincere and respectful appeal to always obey the rules of the road.

A stop sign means STOP. Traffic laws are there to protect everyone, including you.

It has been observed and reported that some riders are engaging in reckless driving behaviours, such as failing to stop at stop streets, speeding, and taking unnecessary risks. Please remember that riding a motorcycle leaves you far more vulnerable than someone travelling in a car or truck.

No delivery is worth risking your life or the lives of other road users.

A pizza that arrives a few minutes late is far better than a tragedy that could have been prevented. Customers can wait for a hot meal—but your family cannot replace you.

Please ride responsibly, respect all traffic laws, and help keep our roads safe for everyone.

Your safety comes first. Every ride. Every stop. Every time.

In South Africa, intentionally poisoning a dog is a serious matter and may constitute both animal cruelty and malicious damage to property, depending on the circumstances. If your dog has been poisoned, the following steps are recommended:

1. Seek immediate veterinary care.

Take your dog to the nearest veterinarian without delay.

Request a written veterinary report describing the suspected poisoning, treatment provided, and, if applicable, the cause of death.

2. Preserve evidence.

Keep any suspected poisoned bait, food, or substances in a sealed container. Do not handle with bare hands please!

Take photographs of the scene, your dog's condition (if appropriate), and any suspicious items.

Keep all veterinary invoices, reports, and receipts.

3. Report the matter to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Open a criminal case at your nearest police station.

Provide all available evidence, including veterinary reports, photographs, witness statements, and any CCTV footage.

Obtain a case number for future reference.

4. Report the incident to the SPCA.

Contact your local National Council of SPCAs (or your nearest SPCA branch).

The SPCA has inspectors who are empowered under South African law to investigate cases of animal cruelty and may assist in gathering evidence and pursuing legal action.

5. Cooperate with the investigation.

If additional evidence becomes available, provide it to both SAPS and the SPCA.

Avoid confronting or accusing a suspected individual publicly unless there is sufficient evidence, as this could complicate the investigation.

Relevant South African law

The main legislation that may apply includes:

Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962, which makes it an offence to unnecessarily or cruelly poison or cause suffering to an animal.

Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, which governs criminal investigations and prosecutions.

Depending on the facts, intentional poisoning may also result in charges related to malicious damage to property, as pets are recognized as property under South African law.

If the person responsible is identified and convicted, the court may impose penalties under the applicable legislation. You may also be able to pursue a civil claim to recover veterinary expenses or the value of your dog, depending on the circumstances.

If you observe suspicious behavior, it's best to prioritize your own safety. Avoid confronting the person or putting yourself at risk. Instead, gather only the information you can safely observe.

Useful details to note include:

The exact location (street, landmark, or address).

The date and time.

A description of the person or people (clothing, approximate age, height, distinguishing features).

What they were doing that seemed suspicious (stick to observable facts rather than assumptions).

Details of any vehicle involved (make, model, color, registration number, direction of travel).

Whether anyone appears to be in immediate danger.

You can then report it to the appropriate organization:

CPF (Community Policing Forum): Contact your local CPF through its official WhatsApp group, page, community radio announcements, or local police station. CPFs coordinate with the police and can alert neighborhood patrols.

Security company: If the incident occurs in an estate, shopping center, business park, or neighborhood served by a private security company, call their control room or emergency number and provide the details you've observed.

SAPS (South African Police Service):

If there is an emergency or a crime in progress, call 10111 immediately.

For non-urgent reports, contact your nearest police station or visit in person to make a statement if needed.

When making a report:

State your name and contact details if you're comfortable doing so (anonymous reports may also be accepted in some situations).

Clearly explain what you observed, where, when, and why it concerned you.

Avoid speculation or accusations; describe only the facts you witnessed.

Mention if there are photos or videos, but only if they were obtained safely and legally.

If someone is in immediate danger or you believe a violent crime is occurring, contact SAPS via 10111 without delay. If you're unsure whether something is suspicious enough to report, it's generally appropriate to report the observable facts and allow the authorities to assess the situation.

While most of our community is asleep, your CPF team is out patrolling, staying alert, and working to help keep our neighbourhood safe.

We are the bridge between our community and SAPS, working hand in hand with our dedicated SAPS members and management to address concerns, report serious matters, and strengthen safety for everyone.

But we cannot do it alone.

We ask you to use us, trust us, and support us. Report concerns, share information responsibly, and become an active partner in building a safer community. Every tip, every volunteer, and every act of support makes a difference.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we can create a safer, more united community for our families, our children, and future generations.

Your safety is our priority. Your support is our strength. Let's stand together and make a difference.

Another long weekend, and once again our teams are out there—side by side with SAPS—facing the harsh realities many never see. From dealing with intoxicated individuals causing disruption, to breaking up fights and responding to crime, the challenges are constant and demanding.

While most are at home, relaxing with family or watching TV, these dedicated White River men and women are on duty—sacrificing their comfort to keep our community safe.

The truth is, their efforts often go unnoticed, and at times, even met with disrespect.

It’s time we change that.

Let’s come together as a community. Let’s stand united, support one another, and show appreciation for those who put their lives on the line every day.

Safety is a shared responsibility—we all have a role to play.

Salute to all our crime-fighting partners. Your commitment does not go unseen. 👏
