Wherever there is a need there is a Lion serving and helping the local community. The International Association of Lions Clubs is now referred to as LCI - Lions Clubs International. Lions Clubs have been in existence for over 100 years and there is a well thought out and comprehensive structure to the world wide organisation. The headquarters is in the USA in Oak Brook, Illinois

The Lion Year runs from 1st July to 30th June. Club members pay subscriptions and these are payable every 6 months. Kingsburgh members can pay their subs every month if they wish to. Each club has at least 2 bank accounts; An Admin. Account and a Project Account. Monies in the Admin. Account are used to help with the running of the club (for example room hire fees for training / meetings, etc and for payment of membership fees to LCI HQ) and the monies in the Project Account are used for community service projects. Most countries have Districts and within each District there are Regions, and Regions are divided into Zones and there are usually 4 to 5 clubs in each Zone. The Lions Club of Kingsburgh, is in Amanzimtoti and is in Zone 9 and District 410E South Africa. Multiple District 410 consists of South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland. The countries are divided into two Districts, namely 410 E (east) and 410 W (west). Each Region has a Regional Chair. Each Zone has a Zone Chair and each District has a District Governor. There is a District Cabinet that discusses and agrees policies for the whole District. Clubs attend Zone meetings each quarter and usually there is a District Convention as well as a Multiple District Convention each year where all the Districts get together to discuss issues and to socialise. Once you become a Lion you will encounter many abbreviations and titles during your journey - with an organisation that is over 100 years old there are many established positions and methodologies that may take some getting used to. For example most people’s position with the Lions (if they have one) are abbreviated such as Past President (PP), Immediate Past President (IPP), District Governor (DG), Zone Chair (ZC) etc etc - if in doubt just ask - everyone has at some stage.
