All the SPCAs in South Africa are governed by the SPCA Act 169 of 1993 which is administered by the National Council of SPCAs, thus constituting us as a statutory body. Inspectors are authorised in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962 and the Performing Animals Protection Act 24 of 1935, with the NSPCA and the SPCAs undertaking over 99% of all animal welfare investigations a

nd prosecutions. The SPCA is managed by a Management Committee elected by the members at an Annual General Meeting. These members ensure good governance and that the SPCA performs its main functions of education and preventing cruelty. The Committee at present:

Chairperson – Stephan Vickers
Vice Chairperson – Andre Rheder
Treasurer – Antoinette Ries

Our Story

The Vryheid SPCA is a Non-Profit, Non-Governmental Organisation which receives no financial support from the South African Government. Municipal financial aid is not provided in lieu of the services the SPCA renders on behalf of the Municipal Pound. All funds required for the SPCA's work to combat cruelty and educate the public come directly from YOU, the public. General expenses need to be paid . Medical expenses for example deworming and mange treatments in rural areas and our outreaches are not for free and we do cover those extra expenses.
