For those who could not make it to the Draft Municipal Budget Public Participation Meeting held on Monday, 13 April, here is a quick summary of what was presented.

The draft budget shows a move toward financial stability, but also increased pressure on residents.

In short:
• Tariffs are increasing.
• The municipality is stabilising financially.
• The focus will be on essential services.

Key tariff increases:
• Water: +8%
• Electricity: +8%
• Waste: +11.92%
• Rates: +5%
• Sanitation: +4.5%

Financial position:
The municipality has moved from a R103 million deficit to a R4.7 million surplus. This reflects a shift from the Rescue Phase to the Stabilise Phase.

This programme focuses on leadership, community organising, and building strong, issue-based advocacy.

We are proud to see local leadership growing and strengthening. What they learn will support our work in Villiersdorp and help us engage more effectively with the municipality.
