Environmental Champions Continue Their Commitment to Creating Cleaner Schools
7 August 2026 | Chivirikana Primary School | Katlehong, Gauteng
The Keep South Africa Clean Foundation's Environmental Champions continued their mission of promoting environmental stewardship by embarking on a community clean-up and school improvement campaign at Chivirikana Primary School on Friday, 7 August 2026.
The initiative took place just one day after the Foundation addressed learners during the school's assembly, where they inspired learners to become Environmental Champions by protecting nature, keeping their surroundings clean, conserving water and taking pride in their school and community.
Putting these messages into action, the Environmental Champions returned to the school to work alongside educators and learners in creating a cleaner, healthier and more welcoming learning environment.
During the campaign, the Environmental Champions:
* Assisted in maintaining and improving the school's food garden.
* Conducted a comprehensive clean-up of the school grounds.
* Collected litter and promoted responsible waste disposal.
* Painted the children's play areas to create a brighter and safer recreational environment.
* Encouraged learners to take ownership of keeping their school clean and beautiful.
The campaign demonstrated that environmental education is most effective when it is followed by practical action. By combining awareness with hands-on community service, the Environmental Champions showed learners that every individual has a role to play in protecting the environment.
The school's food garden remains an important educational resource, providing learners with practical knowledge about food production, environmental sustainability and healthy living. The Environmental Champions were proud to contribute to maintaining this valuable asset while reinforcing the importance of caring for green spaces.
Speaking after the campaign, representatives of the Keep South Africa Clean Foundation reaffirmed the organisation's commitment to supporting schools through environmental education and practical environmental initiatives.
"This campaign is not a once-off activity. We are committed to working with Chivirikana Primary School to maintain a clean, healthy and environmentally friendly learning environment. We also look forward to supporting the establishment of an Environmental Club at the school, where learners can continue to champion environmental awareness and lead sustainability initiatives throughout the year."
The Foundation believes that schools play a vital role in developing environmentally responsible citizens. Through its Environmental Champions Programme, Keep South Africa Clean Foundation continues to partner with schools to establish Environmental Clubs, promote recycling, support food gardens, organise clean-up campaigns and empower learners to become ambassadors for environmental sustainability.
The Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the management, educators and learners of Chivirikana Primary School for their enthusiasm, support and commitment to creating a cleaner and greener school.
Together, through education, action and partnership, we are nurturing a generation of young leaders who understand that protecting the environment begins with the choices we make every day.
Together, we are building a Cleaner, Greener and More Sustainable South Africa. ๐โป๏ธ๐ฑ
