According to Breathe Cities, in the City of Joburg collected emissions inventory indicates that 75% of Particulate Matter comes from vehicle emissions and 25% comes from other sources.

Braamfontein poses high risks of vehicle emissions due to traffic congestion.

VEJA is attending the Breathe Cities event supported by Clean Air Fund at UJ, interesting to find out that South Africa is under funded in terms of Air Quality interventions, the reasons said for this is that there's not enough air quality interventions being done in the sector.

Clearly these are indications that despite all the Airshed Priority Areas declared in South Africa with the Air Quality Management Plans have no basis such to justify the urge and need to have priority interventions materialised.

The biggest failure of our time is deploying politicians who are clueless into positions of spatial development and Environment Management Framework 💔

Renewable Energy developments have reclaimed too much land which reduces its future potential development demand vs the land to be reclaimed for residential and farming developments. Hence the Gauteng government has targeted the rural Vaal for the GH2 developments.

Electrolysers costs are still higher, demanding a large scale of water supply and electricity which residents currently don't have. Who will be compromised to make way for the GH2 developments?

At Zamdela taxi rank waiting for our protest to start. Sasol has been flaring non stop since we arrived this morning. This is obviously against the MES, they are doing this deliberately because they know that we are outside making noise.

The flaring is still up, and we will try our luck to report to the Air Quality Officer at Fezile Dabi

This week VEJA is hosting the Global Fair Steel Coalition for a Strategic Meeting which started on Monday. Yesterday we had a toxic tour around ArcelorMittal Vanderbijlpark works and visited community members that are directly affected by the steel mill.

Today we hosted representatives from the Industrial Development Corporation, the Department of Trade and Industry and Competition and the International Trade Administration Commission for a dialogue on the Future of Steel in South Africa and challenges faced by AMSA.
