🏮 Celebrating Culture, Creativity & Community! 🏮

This week is all about light, learning, and local spirit as we lead up to the Chinese Lunar New Year Lantern Festival! 🐉

We are so proud of the collaboration between Dusty Dog and Oasis. Together, we’ve been on a journey of experiential learning, teaching the children the beauty of cultural diversity through hands-on creation.

It’s been a true team effort:

Ceridwen has been opening the children's eyes to the rich traditions of Chinese culture.

Peter helped the kids turn "found objects" into stunning hanging lanterns.

Quinton stepped in for some fascinating lessons all about snakes! 🐍

Our Cooks & CBWs spent time at Dusty Dog mastering Chinese-inspired flavors.

Tomorrow is the big taste test! Our amazing kitchen team will be serving up a delicious chicken and veg stir-fry with egg fried rice for the 200 people Oasis feeds daily. 🥢✨

Stitching together a brighter future! 🧵✨

We are so proud of the progress our Sewing Project has made! So far, 13 incredible women have been profiled, trained, and are already hard at work creating beautiful goods.

We are just two people shy of our goal of 15, and we can’t wait to welcome new faces to the team this January to reach our full target! 🚀

Healing through Unity: Our GBV Awareness Program 🧡

From November 25th–27th, Oasis Community Projects held a sacred space for our community. We listened to the brave testimonies of survivors, turning their pain into shared strength and insight.

In a powerful gesture of support and solidarity, the men of our community stepped up to prepare and serve meals for everyone. This simple act of service created a space of true healing, showing that we stand together against Gender-Based Violence.

Building a Safer Vanwyksdorp Together! 🛡️🏘️

On December 6th, Oasis Community Projects hosted a vital Disaster Management workshop right here in Vanwyksdorp. With 120 community members in attendance, it was incredible to see our neighbors coming together to prioritize safety and preparedness.

What did we learn? 📝 We dived deep into understanding the difference between natural and man-made disasters. Most importantly, everyone walked away knowing exactly what steps to take when an emergency strikes to keep their families safe.

Incredible work! Our Community Kitchens are providing a vital service, currently feeding an average of 180 people weekly. This massive effort shows the heart and necessity of our local programs.
However, some kitchens are unfortunately having to scale down their operations due to current funding constraints. This highlights the critical ongoing need for support.
Help us raise awareness of this essential work by sharing this post! Let's celebrate the volunteers and staff making a difference and shine a light on the challenges they face.

In addition to these locations, our geographic reach extends to several farm areas, ensuring vital support for agricultural communities. These include:

The collective efforts of these kitchens continue to make a significant impact on food security in our communities. On average, each kitchen provides meals to approximately 150 people, three times a week. This consistent support ensures that a substantial number of vulnerable individuals and families across Ladismith and Zoar receive regular, nutritious meals.
