Its that time of year again. This coming weekend is the Great Southern Bioblitz where observations of biodiversity are recorded all over the Southern Hemisphere and collected into an iNaturalist project to help monitor biodiversity, increase knowledge and get people more interested in nature.

The Waterberg can benefit from more knowledge and biodiversity records of all species - so if you are in the Waterberg this weekend - get out your phone and start taking photos of plants, mammals, birds, reptiles - anything living really!

If you do not have an iNaturalist account - it is easy and free to register on their website. For anyone working as a guide or managing a reserve it is also a great tool to create a species list for your area or to be able to identify unknown species.

So join, contribute, and have loads of fun! 😉

We are deeply grateful to our generous partner, Baby Rhino Rescue, whose unwavering support continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding the rhino population and other endangered species in the Waterberg.

Thanks to their recent funding, we’ve been able to procure essential PPE and equipment for the SAPS Endangered Species Unit and other frontline stakeholders. This gear is vital for enhancing the ability of investigators to manage and secure wildlife crime scenes effectively and professionally.

With the right protection and tools, investigators can confidently gather and preserve evidence critical to future arrests and prosecutions. Every piece of equipment strengthens our fight against poaching and contributes to a safer Waterberg for both wildlife and people.

To date, Baby Rhino Rescue has invested over R1.7 million in advanced technology and gear for the region. Your support truly makes a difference. Thank you for standing with us in this vital mission.
