Hello everyone and welcome to Sahasrara Sanctuary, a non-profit registered project that strives to protect our animals and to give volunteers peace of mind by placing them in the right place for a great experiance.
When you are passionate about the welfare of animals in the wild and of those rescued and living under human protection you can be part of our project and help us to provide them a loving and caring forever home.
My name is Twanet van der Linde , I’m 29 years old with a huge passion and respect for all animals.
Since I was a little girl I was always inspired by Steve Irwin’s and his family’s great work in Australia as well as by many wildlife warriors in my homeland South Africa, like Kevin Richardson.
I made it my goal to protect and help animals in need and above all teaching people the aspects of why we need to protect our wildlife and environment. I studied game ranging, field guiding, animal behaviour and many more extra subjects to help me reach my goal and being qualified for working with animals and people.
I have volunteered at several sanctuaries and I'm constantly gaining further knowledge about our beloved animals.
It’s now time for me to take the next step and start my own sanctuary that will be a safe haven for animals in need and also a source of education to everyone who crosses our paths to help protecting and rehabilitating as many animals as possible.
The project involves for example :
Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation
Lion Project aka LIONETTE Project
Education
Opportunities for vet students
There is many more to come for what I have dedicated my whole life, providing a sanctuary to help those in need!
What we want to achieve:
In the past few years animal numbers are falling rapidly throughout all predator and other species. Hunting and poaching has become more of a problem, followed by threats like the livestock-predator conflict and above all by habitat loss. Your donation will help us to protect affected animals from ending up in a situation that will get them killed for fun, or mistreated and caged up in small enclosures. Your support will help me to find a secure location on a farm in Gauteng as well as help building the necessary facilities we need to create a safe haven for all animals.
What We Need & What You Get
We will need to raise 50.000 US dollars to get a start in covering farm payments as well as start preparing the farm for predators. It includes funding to get all our permits validated and once it has been accepted we will start our rescue program to take orphaned, injured animals (like from road accidents), cubs and adult lions from private ownership's and canned hunt facilities, as well as other animals from bad situations and bring them to be assessed for rehabilitation. If the animal can’t be rehabilitated and released it will live a happy life as part of the family. The donated money also will go towards vet bills and food bills and the upkeep of the facility.
Everyone who donates gets a free visitation certificate and you will get to meet the animal of your choice and receive a weekly update and certificate of the animal. Also you get your name plated on the enclosure and watch your baby grow and going through the big Lionette Project.
We hope you help us to reach our goal and we put all our trust into loyal supporters that share our vision, providing space for South African wildlife and animals in need, and to make sure that rescues won't fail any more just because there is no place to go!

Challenges
With supporters valuing transparency we will be open and stand out by providing insight into the risks and obstacles to face on the way to achieving our goal. The prior challenge right now is to find and to financially cover a farm and fees for getting the location accepted by the Nature Conservation Department for permits. We then need to find and pay people helping us to build enclosures that meet the respective animals’ correct specifications. So your donation will help to entirely build enclosures that are big enough and meet all requirements of the Nature Conservation Departments for those animals who can’t be set free . The farm concept will consider all requirements regarding predators’ and other species’ welfare, health and safety, as well as the safety of visitors and future volunteers. With having to start from the scratch we need all your support to enable us to make this project a success. Please be part of starting this journey with us.
Type of Business Our business is a trust (NPC 2015/245841/08) with a board of trustees.
