This past weekend, our boys and girls participated in the Bothasig tournament and - as ever - made us incredibly proud, both with their performances on the field and their unity and support off it. From outstanding teamwork to pure determination, they embodied our value of excellence on the field.

Congratulations to our U12 Girls & U11 boys who brought home the trophies and to the U10 boys who finished as Tournament runners up. Congratulations also to our individual award winners:

🧤 Lianna U12G GK of the tournament
🧤 Kai U11 GK of the tournament
🏅Declan U11 player of the tournament

A huge highlight of tournament football is seeing so many of the Ubuntu families coming out to support one another so a big thank you to all those who cheered on our teams over the weekend.

As we count down the days until our upcoming grade 7-9 camp taking place from next Wednesday to Friday, excitement around the academy continues to grow.

From team-building activities and outdoor adventures to moments of reflection and connection, our students are excited for a few days filled with joy and plenty of fun along the way. It’s a chance to step away from the everyday routine and simply enjoy growing together on and off the field.

We pray this experience continues to shape strong character, strengthen faith, and remind our students that they are loved, seen, and created with purpose. We are grateful for the team from Pleasant City Church, NC who will once again be leading this camp next week! We looking forward to your arrival!

Congratulations to our graduate, Jordan Samuels, on graduating from Franklin & Marshall College, having pursued Economics and Pre-Law. We’re so impressed by all you’ve achieved in your time since moving to the USA.

Jordan hasn’t only excelled in his studies while in the USA, but he’s also used the opportunity to create ‘Fuel For Thought’, a non-profit dedicated to providing nutrition and resources that support the future leaders of South Africa. Fuel For Thought is built on a simple but powerful belief: nourishment is about more than food. Proper nutrition fuels learning, confidence, wellbeing, and the ability for young people to step fully into their potential.

There is plenty of talent and promise in this country, yet systemic barriers (including limited access to nutritious meals) continue to hold many back. Fuel For Thought exists to change that narrative by building a culture of wellness, resilience, and empowerment.

And true to the Ubuntu spirit, Jordan didn’t just start a movement from afar. Last year, he returned home and personally partnered with us to help feed our own Ubuntu students, giving back to the community that helped shape his journey.

We are proud of your journey, Jordan!

While the majority of our students join us in Grade 7, we occasionally make exceptions and this was the case for Khanya Duze, who joined us in January at the beginning of his Grade 12 year. Leaving his family in Gauteng and a school where an opportunity to step into a role as Head Boy was on the horizon, Khanya bravely decided to step into something new. And upon his arrival, he came wanting to understand, immersing himself in who we are.

Since he arrived four months ago, Khanya has shown real hunger and appetite for growth - asking for more mentoring, counselling, everything Ubuntu had to offer - and has gone after it with real intent ever since. From football to character to his spiritual life (even getting baptised), he’s challenged himself in every area.

We love seeing our students - whether they’ve been a part of our program for a few months or a few years - fully grasp the opportunity that they have at Ubuntu and seek holistic growth in their lives.

This weekend we had the privilege of once again being beneficiaries of the annual Cableway Charity Challenge.

The Cableway Charity Challenge is an incredible initiative that brings together endurance, community, and purpose in support of local organisations. Participants challenge themselves by running up Table Mountain and taking the cable car down — repeating the route multiple times while raising funds through sponsorships and donations. Every step taken carries impact far beyond the mountain.

What made the day especially meaningful was sharing the experience with some of our learners, many of whom visited the top of Table Mountain for the very first time. The excitement, encouragement, and sense of wonder made for unforgettable moments as we cheered on participants, explored the mountain together, and witnessed the powerful spirit of generosity and perseverance that defines this event.

A heartfelt thank you to the organisers of the Cableway Charity Challenge and to every participant who took on the challenge with such determination and heart. We are truly grateful to be part of something so inspiring.

Our staff came together at the beginning of the year for a focused sit-down to align our vision and approach using ClassDojo. ClassDojo is a tool we use to build communication between staff and parents, assist classroom management, and acknowledge and celebrate positive behaviour in our students.

Our staff set clear policies on what matters most - from positive behaviour to tracking how our learners are growing and achieving

✔️ Agreed direction and unity across all staff
✔️ Clear, consistent guidelines for everyone
✔️ Strong push for parent involvement — aiming for 85%+ of families signed up to build a culture of communication (and the response has been amazing!)

We’ve also added some fun into the mix with weekly friendly competition between classes - keeping learners motivated and engaged!

As a result, this aligned vision and approach has strengthened the link between all staff, creating a more connected and supportive school environment and strengthened our value for family!

Earlier this week we shared highlights of our successful Ubuntu Empower program that we launched in Site C alongside UTTE.

And we’re excited to announce that we’re launching our second site in the coming months in Westlake. As a result, we have a few job opportunities available so please check out each of the three postings in the images and email your CV through to [email protected] today!

“We’re going to need a girls trophy cabinet…”

This was one of our staff’s responses following another girls’ tournament win this weekend! This trophy (Cubs Football U13 girls Football Tournament (Strandfontein)) - makes it four trophies across four tournament age groups in the past five weeks! WOW!
🏆 Salt River 7s - U12 Girls
🏆 *Cubs Football* - U13 Girls
🏆 FN Rangers Cup - U14 Girls
🏆 Salt River 7s - U16 Girls

What a tremendous start to the year our girls have made - congratulations to all involved. And special mention to Hannah who followed up last weekend’s “Player of the Tournament” Award with the “Top Goalscorer” Award. We’re looking forward to watching these teams grow and excel on and off the field!

Last year we launched Ubuntu Empower - a community initiative (alongside UTTE) in Site C, Khayelitsha. Twelve months on and we’ve served over 1800 nutritious meals and delivered over 139 life skills lessons to 65 children from four local primary schools. As a result, we have seen some phenomenal results in our participants including:

* 8% improvement in English literacy
* 5% improvement in Mathematics
* PLUS one girl has been selected for our Girls Academy!

We will be announcing our next Empower soon and anticipating we will see a similar impact on the young people of that community too. Our vision is to see multiple Empower sites impacting under served communities across South Africa, so if you (or your business) are hungry to make an impact and would like to know more about how you can partner with us, then please connect with Mark ([email protected])

As an organisation, we are intentional about growth and improvement and this is seen across all of our departments. In our School environment, our Staff Team cast a clear vision for Term 1 and set meaningful goals and targets to guide their progress while maintaining their standards of excellence. The embracing of this vision lead to greater creativity in our lessons, creating more opportunities for our learners to engage, interact, and truly enjoy the learning. Not only has communicating this vision and setting targets lead to a more creative learning environment, but we have already seen the fruit of this in results too, with our Grade 12 students being placed second in the district based on their Term 1 Life Orientation results. Congratulations to Ms Lamb and the Grade 12s for this excellent start to the year.

We want to intentionally set a culture that develops servant leaders and as part of that, we introduced a rhythm of focus on one of our core values every two weeks in our school. During each two week cycle, we not only teach into that value but celebrate it in the lives of students who consistently live it out. These moments have been powerful reminders of the kind of character and community we are building.
