It is unfortunate that in South Africa, partner-on-partner violence is more prevalent than we think. As a result, one-third of young girls experience abuse and violence in their first relationships as teenagers.

This type of dating violence tends to occur when one partner wants to exert power and control over the other, and both boys and girls can fall victim to it. Shockingly, for one in three young people, their first love introduces physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month around the Corner. This is a month long push to raise awareness about Teen Dating Violence to prevent Teen Dating Violence before it starts.
Building up on our 2024,16 Days of Activism theme- "Respect"!! we are excited to announce 2025 Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month theme: " RESPECT is THAT" as spearheaded by Elomso Africa Npo in collaboration with UCR FM RADIO-Mthatha Youth Commitment, Iphulo Basic Development and Mthatha Foundation for Youth.
By illuminating what "That" means regarding Healthy, Equitable and Respectful Relationships. We know that Respect is not just a vague idea; its action and mindset. How you define it, its essential to ensure you're in the same page with your partner about definitions and about your boundaries in your relationship.
Teens and young adults express their love for one another in many ways, which differ from person to person, or community. All expressions of love are valid. However, the essential aspect of 'RESPECT is THAT' call on us all to a world of RESPECTful actions , to express and show healthy love in treating partners with dignity, listening to their viewpoints, respecting their boundaries, and valuing their autonomy by focusing on ‘respect’.
Learn more about' RESPECT is THAT' by keeping an eye on this page during the month of February when we explore this powerful concept- ' RESPECT is THAT'
