NORTH BEACH SANDBAG REPAIRS UNDERWAY! 🚧

Protecting our coastline. Preserving our village.

Following months of discussions and on-site inspections with eThekwini Municipality, we're pleased to share that work has officially begun on the reinstatement and replacement of damaged sandbags along North Beach Road.

What's happening?

Damaged sandbags are being replaced to help protect our coastline and safeguard vital village infrastructure.

Project timeline: Approximately four months.

Please note: The container positioned in front of Izikulu is being used by the project contractors for the duration of the works.

We appreciate our community's patience and cooperation as these important improvements take place. Further progress updates will be shared as work continues.

WORLD ANIMAL DAY | LOVE THEM. RESPECT THEM. PROTECT THEM 🐕

Today, on World Animal Day, we celebrate all creatures that share our beautiful Umdloti — from our much-loved pets to the incredible wildlife that forms part of marine and coastal bush environment.

Being a responsible pet owner also means being a considerate neighbour and helping to protect our natural surroundings.

A few important reminders for our community:

• Keep dogs on a leash in public areas where required and always ensure they are under control.
• Please pick up after your pets and dispose of waste responsibly.
• Make sure pets have appropriate identification should they get lost.
• Never allow pets to chase, disturb or harm local wildlife.
• Respect other residents, beachgoers and animals who may not be comfortable around dogs.
• Never feed, handle or interfere with wild animals — admire them from a safe distance.
• If you come across injured or distressed wildlife, contact the appropriate wildlife or rescue organisation.
Our animals rely on us to make responsible choices.

MARINE MONTH | PROTECTING OUR COASTLINE 💙

This Marine Month, we celebrate one of Umdloti’s greatest treasures — our coastline, our Marine Reserve and the remarkable marine life that calls it home.

A particularly special conservation success has been the resurrection of Umdloti’s mussel beds — an important reminder of what can be achieved when a community works together to protect and restore its natural environment.

Our coastline is something we are incredibly privileged to enjoy, but with that privilege comes a shared responsibility to care for it.

Next time you’re strolling along the promenade, take two minutes to stop and read our Marine Reserve information boards. They’re filled with fascinating facts, photographs and information about the diverse marine life found along our shores — and why protecting these ecosystems matters.

Every small action counts. Keep our beaches clean, respect our Marine Reserve and help us preserve this beautiful coastline for generations to come.

If you’re an Umdloti Smart Village member, you’re never alone when you need assistance.

Our partnership with Marshall Security means that help is just a message or phone call away.

1️⃣REPORT THE EMERGENCY

Message the Umdloti Crime Alert What’s App Group or call Marshall In Case of Anything: 086 162 7732.

2️⃣ HELP IS DISPATCHED

Your information is immediately actioned by the controller who dispatches the relevant Marshall resources, as well as emergency services or SAPS if necessary.

3️⃣ THE SITUATION IS SECURED

Marshall-trained members and management attend, secure and stabilise the situation. When emergency services arrive, the scene is handed over with further assistance provided if required.

That’s the power of being part of a connected, proactive community. 💙

PROTECT OUR DUNES. PROTECT UMDLOTI. 🌿

Our dunes are more than just part of Umdloti’s beautiful coastline — they are our natural defence against the ocean. They help protect our homes, roads and community from the impact of high seas and storm events.

In the past, Umdloti’s South and North Beach Roads have experienced extensive damage from high seas. One contributing factor was exposed dune areas where vegetation had been destroyed by informal shortcuts to the beach and litter.

For many years, the Umdloti Conservancy has worked tirelessly to educate our community and rehabilitate these fragile dune systems.

Sadly, we are seeing shortcuts appearing on the dunes again.

Please help us protect what protects us.

✔️ Use the designated beach access points
✔️ Keep off the dunes and protect dune vegetation
✔️ Never create shortcuts
✔️ Take your litter home
✔️ Please remind your family, guests and staff to do the same
Every footprint matters. Every plant helps.

Together, we can protect Umdloti’s dunes and the future of our beautiful coastal village.
