Bartle House We use this social platform to share some of the stories happening at our retirement home.

Bartle House is a non-profit organisation and a registered address of Centenary Homes situated at 300 Bartle Road in Umbilo, Durban. The home was founded in the 1800's by Mrs Jonathon Peel under the name of "The Durban Homes for Men" and has been serving the community for over 100yrs. At Bartle House, we are currently accommodating 90 social pensioners (men and women). Our main objective is to assist social pensioners by providing a safe, happy and well-maintained environment for them to live in. Our home is run on Christian principles and social pensioners of all races, creeds and denominations are welcome.

🎶 BRAAI DAY CONCERT AT BARTLE HOUSE 🎶

What a wonderful afternoon we had on Saturday, 26 September!

Our Braai Day Concert was a huge success! A big thank you to Toppie en Poppie for the fantastic entertainment - Toppie, Poppie and their whole family are incredible entertainers and loads of fun, from behind the mics to on the dance floor. Our residents absolutely loved the music!

We were blessed with lovely weather and enjoyed the great outdoors.

A heartfelt thank you to:
- All our friends and family who joined us
- The Bartle House Resident's Committee for arranging the function, it is Caroline & El-Marie for all the running around before and on the day, John for sorting out the braai and Annie for helping put the function together
- Gabriel and Fritz for braaing the meat to perfection
- Feedem for preparing the delicious sosaties, lovely salads and showing us their dancing skills
- Memory, Edward and Derek for helping setting up the tables and the chairs
- Sterling for thanking the band in his own charming way

Overall it was a great success and has set the standard very high!

A Gingerbread Man activity for Alzheimer's Day was held on 26 September, led by Lee-Anne from Feedem.

Diane, Yvette, Elizabeth, Christina and Bev were all handed their balls of dough and managed to make lovely decorated gingerbread men out of it.

Baked by our lovely kitchen staff, they could then proudly show off their handiwork.

Well done to all!

🎶 MUSICAL BINGO FUN AT BARTLE HOUSE! 🎶

What a fantastic afternoon we had on Tuesday, 22 September!

A huge THANK YOU to Lucia from AVBOB for hosting a wonderful Musical Bingo for our residents. It was so well supported and filled with laughter, singing and lots of fun! 💃🕺

Lucia carefully selected the best hits from the 50's, 60s and 70s, and wow - the memories came flooding back! Our residents were singing along, tapping their feet and reminiscing about the good old days. Music truly is magic! ❤️🎵

The pictures say it all - just look at the concentration on their faces as they listened carefully, trying to place the name of the song! You could see the wheels turning and then the big smiles when they remembered! 😊

Thank you Lucia and AVBOB for your time, your kindness and for bringing so much joy to our home.

We can't wait for the next one!

🌱🎨 *Our Planter Project is Blooming!* 🎨🌱

What a wonderful few weeks we've had in the garden!
Our lovely residents, Diane, Elizabeth, Jane and Yvette, put their hearts into decorating our new planter boxes with bright colours and lots of love.
Then we had the help of the wonderful UKZN students Robyn and Rene, who helped us fill the boxes with leaves, potting soil and little seedlings.
Thank you to everyone who took part - our garden is now full of colour and life. We can't wait to watch it grow!

🎉🎂 Our FIRST Birthday Tea Party! 🎂🎉

What a special day at Bartle House!
Today we celebrated our very first Birthday Tea Party - a brilliant idea from Martinus at Feedem - and what a success it was!

Our August birthday stars were truly spoiled, with delicious treats, beautiful decor, lots of laughter and so much love.

A huge thank you to Martinus and the amazing Feedem team for making this happen for our residents. This is what community is all about. 💛

We already can't wait for September's party!

Our Bartle House ladies had a wonderful time at the Women’s Afternoon Tea Party at Umbilo Methodist Church on Saturday, 15 August.
Huge thanks to the church for hosting us and to our kind donor for making it possible for 8 ladies to attend.
