🐾 STERILISATION ISN'T JUST ABOUT KITTENS. IT'S ABOUT THEIR FUTURE. 🐾

Today, five of our sanctuary cats went to the vet to be spayed/neutered. ❤️

Sterilisation isn't just about preventing unwanted kittens. It can also have important health and welfare benefits for the cats themselves, including reducing the risk of certain reproductive cancers and infections, preventing unwanted pregnancies, and reducing behaviours such as roaming and fighting. Neutering males can also reduce the risk of injuries associated with territorial fights.

South Africa has a heartbreaking overpopulation problem when it comes to unwanted cats. There simply aren't enough homes for all the kittens being born, and too many end up abandoned, neglected or living on the streets.

We honestly believe sterilisation laws should become stricter, because responsible pet ownership means preventing unwanted litters before they happen.

At Beyond Borders, we sterilise the animals in our care whenever we can. But with the animals depending on us, our veterinary bill is substantial and there are always animals needing treatment, medication or emergency care. 💔

If you can help us towards our vet bill, even R50 or R100 makes a difference. Every little bit helps us keep providing the care these animals deserve. 🙏

Maybe this is possible… ❤️

I've been breaking my brain over our financial situation.

It’s an incredibly stressful time trying to keep Beyond Borders afloat, especially with the very real possibility that we could be forced to close our doors.

And honestly… I don’t want that to happen.

So I’ve been thinking… what about this?

What if we could find 1,000 people who are willing to commit to just R50 a month?

That’s it.

1,000 people × R50 = R50,000 a month.

That could cover our basic running costs and give us the stability we desperately need.

R50 might not seem like much.

But when 1,000 people each say, “I’ve got you,” it becomes something incredibly powerful. A 1,000 people standing together for the animals. ❤️

It means food.
It means veterinary care.
It means electricity, rent, maintenance and everyday necessities.

But most importantly…
It means these animals get to keep their home. 🐾

So here’s my question:
Could you be one of our 1,000?

🌿 LIVING IN HARMONY 🐒🐔🐐

Living in harmony with nature is such a privilege. ❤️

There is something incredibly special about sitting quietly and watching the monkeys and all the other free roaming animals simply go about their day.

We are blessed with an abundance of natural trees, wild food and space for the monkeys and our animals to forage naturally. 🌳

And perhaps one of the greatest joys of sanctuary life is watching them all share this space peacefully, each species simply being who they are, without fear and without interference.

This is what we strive for at Beyond Borders… a little piece of the world where animals can simply live. 🐒🐔🐐❤️

Sometimes, you don't need to do anything but sit back and watch nature do what nature does best. 🌿✨

A Silent Killer 🦉💔

Yesterday, members of the public found a young Barn Owl grounded in the middle of the day. He was extremely weak.

This little owl should have been just starting his life. Instead, he had ingested rat poison.

Unfortunately the effects of the poison had progressed too far, and sadly, no form of treatment or miracle could even save him. 💔

And this is the part I wish more people understood…

Rat poison doesn’t only kill rats.
A poisoned rat can be eaten by an owl, hawk, eagle, snake, cat, dog or another wild animal and that animal can then suffer secondary poisoning.

So the poison moves through the food chain. One poisoned rat can become the reason another animal dies.

There are safer, more ethical ways to control rats. Secure food and rubbish, block access points, use humane live-catch traps, and address what is attracting the rodents in the first place.

Please, think twice before putting out rat poison. 🥺

How many owls, raptors and other innocent animals must lose their lives before we realise that rat poison doesn't just kill rats?

This beautiful young owl deserved a chance at life. Sadly, he never got it. 🦉💔

Some days, the sanctuary reminds you that there are no sick days when nearly 100 lives depend on you. ❤️

I woke up this morning with a severe migraine and vomiting. But the animals still need feeding, cleaning, medication and care, sick or not.

While working outside, I became faint and had to lie down on the ground for a few moments.

And then little Zahir came and lay down right beside me. 🥹❤️
Almost as if he was saying, “I’m staying here until you’re okay.”

This is the reality behind rescue. It isn't always beautiful photos and happy endings. Sometimes it's exhaustion, pain, tears, and simply pushing through because the animals can't wait.

But sometimes, when you feel like you have nothing left to give… one little goat reminds you why you keep going. 🐐❤️

No sick days. No giving up. Just love.

🚗 URGENT APPEAL – WE DESPERATELY NEED A VEHICLE 💔

Keeping Beyond Borders Animal Sanctuary going has meant making heartbreaking sacrifices just to keep a roof over our animals' heads and food in their bowls.

One of those sacrifices was losing our only vehicle.

For far too long, we've had to rely on the kindness of members of the public for lifts to rescue injured animals, transport emergency cases, collect food and supplies, and get our animals to veterinary appointments. While we are incredibly grateful for every person who has helped us, it's becoming harder and harder. There are times when no transport is available, leaving us stranded.

Today, we're reaching out with an urgent plea.

If anyone has a small, reliable, fuel efficient vehicle they no longer need and would be willing to donate it to the sanctuary, or if someone would be willing to sponsor a vehicle for us, even for a period of time, it would make a world of difference. It doesn't need to be fancy, just something safe and dependable that can help us get from Point A to Point B so we can continue caring for animals in need.

We know times are tough for everyone, and asking for something like this isn't easy.

The place where you think you're finally going to sit down for a peaceful 5-minute snack... only to discover that your food has already been claimed by the welcoming committee. 😂🐐

Around here, what's yours is everyone's. Personal space? Never heard of it. And honestly... I wouldn't have it any other way. ❤️

While these moments make us laugh every day, the reality is that caring for nearly 100 rescued animals is a full-time commitment, and every apple, bag of feed, and vet bill adds up.
