Today I finally get to share a bit of good news in the middle of our crisis at Beyond Borders Animal Sanctuary.

After seeing our video about the situation we’re facing, a generous tattoo artist reached out and offered us something truly special:
Vera from V-Inked Tattoo Studio, based in Polokwane, Limpopo, has sponsored a full‑day tattoo session worth R4,500.

We are using this as a fundraiser to help keep the sanctuary open, cover food and vet bills, and make sure the animals in our care don’t lose their safe place.

We’ve created a raffle:
🎟 Tickets: R100 each | Runs until 31 July | LIVE DRAW”
- The winner will receive a full‑day tattoo session with Vera at V-Inked Tattoo Studio in Polokwane, Limpopo

HOW TO ENTER:

- WhatsApp the sanctuary directly (the number and details are on the poster in this post)
- We will send you all the information you need and our banking/payment details
- Once you’ve paid, we will confirm your entry and keep your number for the live draw
- Everyone who has entered will be notified via WhatsApp with the exact date and time of the live draw

If you don’t personally want a tattoo, you are still welcome to buy a ticket and gift the prize to a friend or family member if you win.

Every single R100 ticket helps us pay vet bills, buy food and keep the lights on here at the sanctuary.

To Vera from V-Inked Tattoo Studio in Polokwane, thank you for offering a full day of your art to help our animals. Your kindness means more than you know.

If you can’t buy a ticket right now, you can still support us by sharing this post so it can reach someone who might want to enter.

Your share, your comment, and your support truly make a difference.

Thank you for helping us fight for Beyond Borders Animal Sanctuary. 🖤

This is the hardest video I’ve ever had to make.

Today I’m not sharing a cute animal story or rescue update. It’s just me, speaking honestly, because I’ve reached the point where I can’t carry this alone anymore.

Our sanctuary is in serious trouble. If we don’t receive the support we need, we will eventually have to close our doors. That means every life we’ve fought so hard to save will lose the only safe place they have.

I am emotionally and physically exhausted, but I’m still here fighting for them. This video is my way of letting you into the reality we’re facing behind the scenes, the bills, the food, the medical care, and the constant pressure of trying to keep everything going.

If you have ever supported us, shared our posts, or believed in what we’re doing, I’m asking from the bottom of my heart: please watch this video and, if you can, help us keep the sanctuary alive.

You can donate here: https://beyondbordersanimals.com
If you can’t donate, sharing this video and post helps more than you realize.

I don’t want this to be a goodbye. I want this to be the moment our community stands up and says, We won’t let this sanctuary close.

Zahir’s little zoomies are our reminder: the animals don’t stop needing us when month end passes. We are still desperately short on funds to cover food, vet care and basics at Beyond Borders Animal Sanctuary. If you’re able, please send a small donation today, every bit genuinely keeps us going.

Not every rescue moment is dramatic. Sometimes it’s just this… 🤍

A quiet walk through the sanctuary, with little rescue souls following behind because somewhere along the way, they learned that humans can be safe again.

Some arrived frightened, unwanted, and neglected.
Now they follow us simply because they feel loved.

And honestly… that feeling never gets old. 🌿

🦅 Every broken soul that arrives at Beyond Borders carries a story of pain and the promise of hope.

For years, I've poured my heart into giving injured, abandoned, and abused wildlife a second chance at life. From parrots who've forgotten their songs to snakes needing gentle hands, from primates finding family to birds learning they can trust again, each animal that comes through our gates has taught me what true resilience looks like.

This song and video represent our journey together. The sleepless nights when I've cried alongside a dying animal, willing them to hold on. The first time a traumatized creature looks into my eyes and chooses trust over fear. The indescribable joy when one I've nursed back to health returns to the wild. The permanent residents who've found their forever home with us, not because they couldn't leave, but because we became their family.

Beyond Borders isn't just a sanctuary. It's where broken things, including me, come to heal.

Every feather I've mended has mended something in my own spirit. Every life I've saved has saved me right back. These animals have given me purpose when I felt purposeless, hope when I felt hopeless, and love that asks for nothing but presence and care.

But I'll be honest with you, this work demands everything I have and then some. The bills pile up. Emergencies happen at 3 AM. Some animals don't make it, and those losses shatter me. And every single day, I make the choice to keep going, to keep these doors open, to keep showing up, even when it's hard. Especially when it's hard.

I can't do this alone. And truthfully, I'm exhausted.

But when I see a parrot sing again, when an animal I thought wouldn't survive takes their first steps toward freedom, I remember why I can't stop.

💙 If this touched your soul:

→ SHARE this video so others can witness what love looks like
→ DONATE to help me keep these beautiful souls fed, safe, and thriving. How you can support our work👇

→ COMMENT and tell me which moment moved you most
→ FOLLOW our journey, the victories and the heartbreaks

Every share matters. Every donation feeds a hungry soul or heals a wounded body. Every bit of support reminds me I'm not alone in this impossible, beautiful work.

Together, we go Beyond Borders. 🌍✨🐍🦜🦅

This is why we keep warning members of the public to never try to keep wild owls as pets or attempt to hand-rear them at home.

Today, one of the African wood owls grabbed me straight in the face. His talons missed my eye by millimetres. These marks are not from a “mean” bird they are from a wild animal doing exactly what it is designed to do.

When they are small, these owls look soft, harmless, and “cuddly”. People pick them up, take them home, and try to raise them with good intentions but very little understanding of what they are capable of.

This is what those tiny talons can do in a split second.

Wildlife is not meant to be handled, kept, or raised in homes. Not as babies. Not because they look cute. Not because you want to help.

Our work comes with real risks, training, and experience and even then, accidents still happen. Today was a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong when dealing with wildlife.
Please do not try to keep wild birds. Please do not attempt to hand-rear them yourself.

Respect wildlife. Leave it to trained professionals.

Hi everyone 👋

I’ve been a bit quiet since the last update about Abir. Just as he was getting over the worst of the puff adder bite, I ended up needing oral surgery for a very stubborn tooth. So in the end, we both landed up with sore mouths.

I’m taking a few days to recover and let my body catch up a bit. Receiving some tlc from the kittens.

Thank you for all the messages, support, and understanding. I’ll be back soon with more updates and stories from the sanctuary.

Even though I’m recovering from surgery, the sanctuary never stops. The animals still need food, care, and safety every single day 🤍

If you’d like to support us during this time, your donation makes a real difference.
