The group is dedicated to conserving the bats of KwaZulu-Natal through education, research and rehabilitation. An important public participation process is now underway for the development of the uThukela Estuary Management Plan.

This is an opportunity for everyone with an interest in the estuary, particularly residents with long-standing knowledge of the river, its history, wildlife and changing conditions, to share their knowledge and contribute to the future management of this nationally significant estuary.

Conservation does not only happen in nature reserves or protected areas. It happens every day in our gardens, on our beaches, along our streets, in our public spaces and through the small actions that collectively make a big difference.

We would like to recognise and thank the many community members who actively support conservation on the ground by removing invasive plants, participating in clean-ups, protecting indigenous vegetation, reporting environmental concerns, caring for public spaces and helping to preserve the natural beauty of Tugela Mouth.

A special thank you goes to our conservation volunteers, supporters and partner organisations who generously give their time, skills and resources to protect the environment we all share.

Your commitment helps safeguard our beaches, dunes, estuary, river and surrounding natural areas for current and future generations.

Conservation starts within communities - on the ground. Tugela Mouth's Conservation support from EDTEA KZN and Mandeni Local Municipality is greatly appreciated!

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) is leading efforts to restore degraded land and clear invasive alien plants. This initiative protects the environment while supporting local communities.

During our morning beach walk with the Tugela Mouth Conservancy to the river mouth, the presence of the Lobotes attracted numerous hopeful visiting anglers. The site is exceptionally picturesque. Tugela Mouth Conservancy

Lighthouse Beach Path Update - The popular Lighthouse beach path is currently closed while authorities address a few matters in the vicinity. Environmental groups and wildlife photographers who frequently use the path to reach the river mouth are encouraged to visit Lobotes Caravan Park, Lot 8 to obtain directions for easy access to the Tugela Mouth. WE LOVE OUR Tugela Mouth ANGLERS!

A big thank you to everyone who cleans up after their fishing trips on our beach.

Your care makes the shoreline more enjoyable for fellow anglers and beach walkers, and, most importantly, helps protect our precious environment and the many species that call it home.

The Mammal Red List of South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini revision is now available. The list was a coordinated effort by the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI).

The Mammal Red List forms part of a series of national Red List projects including assessments of Amphibians, Birds, Butterflies, Dragonflies & Damselflies, Fairy Shrimps, Freshwater Crabs, Freshwater Fishes, Mammals, Plants, Reptiles, Sharks, Sparids, and Spiders.
