'Intertidal impact'
Ocean Storytelling Photography Grant Winner Sarang Naik's photojournalism journey begins in the intertidal zone of his home city, Mumbai, where animals and plants live in community and survive tidal extremes. It ends across the Indian Ocean, documenting the rocky coast of the Wild Coast of South Africa; both are shores nuanced with a different lived reality.
If the tides have taught Sarang anything, it’s that conservation will always be this push-and-pull of overwhelm and optimism, but his approach reminds us that our hope – and our futures – will depend on how we build communities ourselves.
